On Tuesday 6 June, His Eminence Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, Pope Francis’ envoy, concluded a short but intense visit to Kyiv, accompanied by an official of the Secretariat of State, during which he was able to pause in prayer in the ancient church of Saint Sophia. At the end of his mission, he cordially thanks the civil authorities for the meetings that took place, in particular with President Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

The results of these discussions, like those with the religious representatives, as well as the direct experience of the atrocious suffering of the Ukrainian people as a result of the ongoing war, will be brought to the attention of the Holy Father and will undoubtedly be useful in assessing the steps to be continued both on the humanitarian level and in the search for paths to a just and lasting peace.
