The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Jesús Rico García, member of the Fraternity of the Diocesan Worker Priests of the Heart of Jesus, until now rector of the Pontificio Colegio Español de San José in Rome, as bishop of Ávila, Spain.
Curriculum vitae
Msgr. Jesús Rico García was born on 15 October 1954 in Montemayor de Pililla, archdiocese of Valladolid. He carried out his philosophical and theological studies at the Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca.
He was ordained a priest on 24 June 1979 by Saint John Paul II in Saint Peter’s Basilica. He issued his act of incorporation in the Fraternity of the Diocesan Workers on 3 May 1981.
He holds a licentiate in catechetics and a diploma in science of education from the Salesian Pontifical University of Rome (1981).
He has held the following offices: vice rector of the Zaragoza Seminary (1981-1988); vice director of the Maestro Ávila Vocational Institute of Salamanca (1988-1990); rector of the major aspirantate (1990-1996); member of the General Council (1996-2002); deputy director general (2002-2008) and then director general (2008-2014) of the Fraternity of Diocesan Worker Priests; spiritual director of the Pontificio Colegio Español de San José (2003-2007); director of the secretariat for Seminarians of the Spanish Episcopal Conference (2007-2008); and rector of the aspirantate of Huixquilucan, Mexico (2014-2020). Since 2020 he has served as rector of the Pontificio Colegio Español de San José in Rome.

The Holy Father has appointed His Eminence Cardinal Michael Czerny, S.J., prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, as his special envoy to the celebration of the 140th anniversary of the evangelization of the Congo, to be celebrated in Brazzaville on 4 June 2023.
