Resignation and appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Buenos Aires, Argentina

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of Buenos Aires, Argentina, presented by His Eminence Cardinal Mario Aurelio Poli.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Jorge Ignacio García Cuerva of Río Gallegos as metropolitan archbishop of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop-elect Jorge Ignacio García Cuerva was born on 12 April 1968 in Río Gallegos. After completing his studies in philosophy and theology in the seminary of the diocese of San Isidro, he received priestly ordination on 24 October 1997. He was awarded a licentiate in theology, with specialization in Church history and canon law, from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina “Santa Maria de los Buenos Aires”, and qualified as a lawyer at the Universidad Católica de Salta (UCASAL) in Argentina.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar and parish priest of Nuestra Señora de la Cava in Beccar; parish priest of Santa Clara de Asís in Tigre; promotor of justice in the interdiocesan tribunal of San Isidro, Merlo-Moreno; vice president of diocesan Caritas; diocesan delegate for prison pastoral care, and chaplain of various penitentiaries of the province of Buenos Aires.

On 20 November 2017 he was appointed titular bishop of Lacubaza and auxiliary of Lomas de Zamora, receiving episcopal ordination on 3 March 2018.

On 3 January 2019 he was appointed bishop of Río Gallegos.

He is currently a member of the Dicastery for Bishops and deputy chair of the International Commission of Catholic Prison Pastoral Care (ICCPPC).

 

Resignation of auxiliary bishop of Porto, Portugal

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the office of auxiliary of the diocese of Porto, Portugal, presented by Bishop Pio Gonçalo Alves de Sousa, titular of Aquae Flaviae.

Appointment of auxiliary bishops of Porto, Portugal

The Holy Father has appointed the following as auxiliary bishops of Porto, Portugal: the Reverend Roberto Rosmaninho Mariz, of the clergy of the metropolitan archdiocese of Braga, until now parish priest of São José de São Lázaro, assigning him the titular see of Vita; and the Reverend Joaquim Proença Dionísio, of the clergy of the diocese of Lamego, until now rector of the shrine of Nossa Senhora da Lapa and parish priest, assigning him the titular see of Partenia.

 

Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Roberto Rosmaninho Mariz

Msgr. Roberto Rosmaninho Mariz was born on 13 January 1974 in Rates, Póvoa de Varzim, in the archdiocese of Braga. After attending the seminary of Braga he was awarded a licentiate in theology from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa and, subsequently, a doctorate in religious sciences.

On 19 July 1998 he received priestly ordination and was incardinated in the archdiocese of Braga.

He has held the following offices: parish priest of São João Evangelista in Atães, Santo Estevão in Barros, Santa Marinha in Penascais, São Mamede in Vilarinho, São Paio in Vila Verde, Santa Eulália in Loureira and São Pedro in Lomar; archpriest of Vila Verde and chaplain of the Holy House of Mercy of Vila Verde; member of the Chapter of Canons; bursar for the archdiocese and for archdiocesan seminaries; coordinator of socio-charitable pastoral care and of the Commission for Social Pastoral Care and Archdiocesan Mobility; episcopal vicar for Integral Human Developmlent; assistant for family pastoral care, since 2006; and parish priest of São José de São Lázaro in Braga.

 

Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Joaquim Proença Dionísio

Msgr. Joaquim Proença Dionísio was born on 11 September 1968 in Cimbres, Armamar, in the diocese of Lamego. After completing his studies at the Lamego Major Seminary, he obtained a licentiate in sacramental theology from the Institut Catholique de Paris.

On 31 July 1993 he was ordained a priest and incardinated in the diocese of Lamego.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Santa Maria Madalena in Gouviães, São Pedro in Tarouca and São João in Tarouca (1993-1995); professor in the Lamego Seminary and in the Higher Institute of Theology of Viseu (2002-2005); director of the diocesan Centre for Social Promotion (2005-2014); parish priest of Santíssimo Salvador in Penajoia (2002-2013) and São Silvestre in Britiande (2017-2020); rector of Lamego Major Seminary (2013-2020); director of the diocesan weekly, of the diocesan Commission for Vocations and Ministries, of the Professional School of Lamego and of the Study Centre for the formation of pastoral agents; and member of the Chapter of Canons, and of the College of Consultors.

In addition, he has served as chaplain of Portuguese-speaking communities in Germany and France.

To date, he has been rector of the Shrine of Nossa Senhora da Lapa and parish priest in the municipality of Sernancelhe.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Rome, Italy

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Michele Di Tolve, of the clergy of the archdiocese of Milan, until now parish priest of San Giovanni Battista and Sant’Ambrogio ad Nemus in Rho, as auxiliary bishop of Rome, assigning him the titular see of Horrea.

Msgr. Michele Di Tolve was born on 19 May 1963 in Milan, in the province and archdiocese of the same name, and was ordained a priest on 10 June 1989.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Santi Martiri Gervaso e Protaso in Novate Milanese (1989-1996); parish vicar of Santa Maria Ausiliatrice in Cassina de’ Pecchi and head of youth pastoral care of Sant’Agata V.M. in Sant’Agata Martesana di Cassina de’ Pecchi (1996-2007); head of the Service for the Teaching of the Catholic Religion and of the Service for School Pastoral Care (2007-2014); delegate of the Supreme Moderator of the Higher Institute for Religious Sciences in Milan (2008-2014).

On 1 September 2014 he was appointed rector of the Archiepiscopal Seminary of Milan and rector of the Theological Quadriennium.

Since 3 September 2015 he has been honorary major canon of the Metropolitan Basilica.

Since September 2020 he has been parish priest of San Giovanni Battista in Rho and Sant'Ambrogio ad Nemus in Passirana di Rho.
