The Holy Father appointed His Eminence Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin as pontifical legate for the celebration of the opening of the Virginian Jubilee Year, proclaimed in the ninth centenary of the foundation of the Abbey of Santa Maria in Montevergine, Italy, to be held on Sunday 28 May 2023, Solemnity of Pentecost.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Louis Nguyên Anh Tuán, until now titular of Catrum and auxiliary of the archdiocese of Thành-Phô Hô Chi Minh, Hôchiminh Ville, as bishop of the diocese of Hà Tinh, Viêt Nam.

 

Appointment of bishop of Phât Diêm, Viêt Nam

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Peter Kieu Cong Tung, of the clergy of Thành-Phô Hô Chí Minh, Hôchiminh Ville, until now chancellor and lecturer at Saint Joseph’s Major Seminary in Hôchiminh Ville, as bishop of the diocese of Phât Diêm, Viêt Nam.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Peter Kieu Cong Tung was born on 24 August 1964 in Saigon, archdiocese of Thành-Phô Hô Chí Minh, Hôchiminh Ville. He attended Saint Joseph's Major Seminary in Hôchiminh Ville and was ordained a priest on 30 June 1999 for the same archdiocese.

After ordination, he first served as deputy parish priest of Bui Phat (1999-2003) and assistant lecturer at Saint Joseph’s Major Seminary in Hôchiminh Ville (2003-2004). He studied in the United States of America for a Master of Arts and Master of Sacred Music in pastoral care and sacred music at Boston College, as well as a Master of Sacred Theology in liturgy at Boston University (2004-2009). From 2009 to 2010 he served as deputy parish priest of the Cathedral and until now chancellor and lecturer at Saint Joseph’s Major Seminary.

 

Appointment of coadjutor bishop of Cân Tho, Viêt Nam

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Peter Le Tan Loi, of the clergy of Cân Tho, Viêt Nam, until now professor and dean of studies in the Saint Pierre Doan Cong Quy Major Seminary of Cân Tho, as coadjutor bishop of the diocese of Cân Tho, Viêt Nam.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Peter Le Tan Loi was born on 19 June 1970 in Cân Tho. He attended the Saint Pierre Doan Cong Quy Major Seminary of Cân Tho and was ordained a priest on 22 June 2000 for the diocese of Cân Tho.

Following ordination, he first served as deputy parish priest of Phung Hiep (2000-2004). He then studied for a licentiate in biblical theology at the Pontifical Urbanian University of Rome (2004-2011). Since 2011 he has held the role of resident professor in the Saint Pierre Doan Cong Quy Major Seminary of Cân Tho.
