The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Dunkeld, Scotland, presented by Bishop Stephen Robson.
Appointment of bishop of Itapeva, Brazil
The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Eduardo Malaspina as bishop of Itapeva, Brazil, transferring him from the titular see of Pupiana and from the office of auxiliary of São Carlos.
Curriculum vitae
Bishop Eduardo Malaspina was born on 12 July 1967 in Tabatinga, diocese of São Carlos, in the State of São Paulo. He carried out his studies in philosophy at the diocesan seminary of São Carlos (1985-1987) and in theology at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Campinas-SP (1988-1991). He was awarded a licentiate in communication science from the Salesian Pontifical University of Rome.
He was ordained a priest on 13 December 1991, and incardinated in the diocese of São Carlos.
He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Nossa Senhora do Patrocínio in Jaú-SP; parish administrator of Nossa Senhora Aparecida in Américo Brasiliense-SP; diocesan secretary and then coordinator for pastoral ministry; teacher at the preparatory seminary and the seminary of philosophy; chancellor; vicar general; parish priest of São Nicolau de Flüe in São Carlos-SP; member of the Presbyteral Council and the College of Consultors.
On 7 March 2018 he was appointed titular bishop of Pupiana and auxiliary of São Carlos, and received episcopal ordination on the following 1 May. He was diocesan administrator of São Carlos from 2020 to 2021.
Within the Regional Sul 1 of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil, he is president of hte Pastoral Commission of Liturgy.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Anthony Ovayero Ewherido of the clergy of the diocese of Warri, Nigeria, until now rector of the Saints Peter and Paul Interdiocesan Major Seminary in Ibadan, as bishop of the same diocese of Warri, Nigeria.

Bishop Anthony Ovayero Ewherido was born on 8 October 1960 in Eghwu, in the diocese of Warri. After attending the minor seminary in Effurun, he completed his studies in philosophy and theology at the Saints Peter and Paul Major Seminary in Ibadan. He was subsequently awarded a doctorate in biblical studies at Saint John’s University and Fordham University in New York. He subsequently obtained a diploma at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum in Rome.
He was ordained a priest on 18 October 1986 and incardinated in the diocese of Warri.
He has held the following offices: deputy priest of Saint Jude's in Effurun (1986 - 1987); rector of the Holy Martyrs of Uganda Minor Seminary in Effurun (1988-1992); parish priest of the Mother of the Redeemer Catholic Church in Effurun (1992-1994); residential priest with pastoral responsibilities at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Floral Park (1994-2005) and Saint Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Coram, New York (1995-2006); chaplain at Stony Brook University Medical Center in Stony Brook, New York (1995-2006); parish priest of the Sacred Heart in Abraka, Nigeria (2006-2007); since 2007, formator and teacher at the Saints Peter and Paul Interdiocesan Major Seminary in Ibadan; vice rector of the Saints Peter and Paul Interdiocesan Major Seminary in Ibadan (2013-2019); teacher at the Dominican Institute in Samonda, Ibadan (2013-2021); and since 2019, rector of the Saints Peter and Paul Interdiocesan Major Seminary.
Appointment of bishop of Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivoire
The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Joseph Kakou Aka of the clergy of Grand-Bassam, until now secretary general of the regional episcopal conference of West Africa, as bishop of the diocese of Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivoire.

Msgr. Joseph Kakou Aka was born on 17 August 1967 in Assinie, in the diocese of Grand-Bassam. After attending the minor seminary of Yopougon and the Saint Peter Regional Major Seminary of Pedu in Cape Coast, Ghana, he was awarded a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the State University of Accra.
He was ordained a priest on 23 July 1994 for the diocese of Grand-Bassam.
Following ordination, he first served as deputy parish priest and then parish priest of Saint Antoine de Padou in Moosou (1994-1999). He then studied for a licentiate in biblical theology at the Catholic University of West Africa (1999-2001). He then held the role of interim secretary of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Côte d’Ivoire (2001-2002). He was awarded a licentiate in biblical exegesis from the Pontifical Biblical Institute of Rome (2002-2006), and went on to serve as director of the Biblical Apostolate (2007-2012), adjunct secretary of the Regional Episcopal Conference of West Africa – CERAO/RECOWA (2012-2018) and, from 2018, secretary general.
