Appointment of bishop of San Miniato, Italy
The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Giovanni Paccosi, of the clergy of the metropolitan archdiocese of Florence, head for Latin America of the Fraternity of Communion and Liberation, as bishop of San Miniato, Italy.
Curriculum vitae
Msgr. Giovanni Paccosi was born on 2 June 1960 in Florence, Italy. After entering the Communion and Liberation Movement, he attended the archepiscopal seminary of Florence.
He was ordained a priest on 4 April 1985 for the archdiocese of Florence.
He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Santa Maria in Scandicci (1985-1988) and in Santa Maria in Novoli, Florence (1988-1989); parish priest of San Martino a Strada in Bagno a Ripoli (1989-1996) and Santa Maria in Coverciano (1996-2001).
In 2001 he was sent as a fidei donum priest to the diocese of Carabayllo in the district of Lima, Peru, where he served as parish priest of Santa María de la Reconciliación, head of university pastoral ministry in the Universidad Católica “Sedes Sapientiae” of Carabayllo, teacher and coordinator of the Àrea de Antropologia y Teologia and head of the formation of young clergy of the diocese of Carabayllo. He was then awarded a licentiate in Educación Secondaria with a specialization in Filosofía y Religión from the Universidad Católica “Sedes Sapientiae” (2006) and a doctorate in sacred theology from the Theological Faculty of Central Italy.
Since 2016, when he returned to Italy, he has served as parish priest of Gesù Buon Pastore in Casellina in Scandicci.
In recent years, he has also served as director of the diocesan office for ecclesiastical cultural heritage and buildings of worship, honorary canon of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, episcopal vicar for pastoral ministry, and member of the College of Consultors.
Since 2022, he is head for Latin America of the Fraternity of Communion and Liberation.
