Appointment of auxiliary bishops of Washington, U.S.A.

The Holy Father has appointed as auxiliary bishops of the metropolitan archdiocese of Washington, United States of America, the following priests from the clergy of the same archdiocese: the Reverend Msgr. Juan R. Esposito-Garcia, until now official at the Dicastery for Bishops, assigning him the titular see of Tabla, and the Reverend Evelio Menjivar-Ayala, until now parish priest of Saint Mary in Landover Hills (MD), assigning him the titular see of Aeto.

 

Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Juan R. Esposito-Garcia

Msgr. Juan R. Esposito-Garcia was born on 10 January 1974 in San Luis, Argentina. After obtaining his degree in law at the Universidad Católica de Cuyo in San Luis, he continued his ecclesiastical studies at the Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, obtaining a Masters in Divinity and a Masters in Arts-Moral Theology. He was subsequently awarded a licentiate and doctorate in canon law at the Catholic University of America.

He was ordained a priest on 14 June 2008 for the archdiocese of Washington.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of the Shrine of Saint Jude in Rockville (2008-2010) and of the Saint Mark the Evangelist in Hyattsville (2010-2012); parish vicar pro-tempore of the Church of the Little Flower (2013) and parish administrator pro-tempore of Ascension in Bowie (2014); teacher of the Archdiocesan Programme for Marriage Preparation  (2010-2015); member of the Committee for the Admission of Seminarians (2012-2017); member of the Archdiocesan Theological Council (2013-2015); member of the Canonical Committee of the Archdiocesan Synod (2013-2014); adjunct professor of canon law and spiritual director at Mount Sain Mary’s Seminary (2014-2017); judge of the tribunal of the archdiocese of Washington, adjunct judicial vicar and then judicial vicar of the archdiocese of Washington (2011-2017).

From 2018 to date he has served as an official of the Dicastery for Bishops.

 

Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Evelio Menjivar-Ayala

Msgr. Evelio Menjivar-Ayala was born on 14 August 1970 in Chalatenango, El Salvador. After emigrating to the United States, he completed his studies in philosophy at the Saint John Vianney College Seminary of Miamo and in theology at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome (2002). He was subsequently awarded a licentiate at the Pastoral Theology Of Human Mobility Scalabrini International Migration Institute (Simi), Rome.

He was ordained a priest on 29 May 2004 for the archdiocese of Washington.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Mother Seton in Germantown (2004-2008); of Saint Bartholomew the Apostle in Bethesda in Maryland (2009) and of the Cathedral of Saint Matthew the Apostle in Washington DC (2009-2013); parish priest of Our Lady Queen of the Americas in Washington DC (2013-2017); dean of the deanery of Middle Prince George’s County, member of the Priest Personnel Board and of the Archdiocesan Child Protection Advisory Board.

Since 2017, he has served as parish priest of Saint Mary in Landover Hills, Maryland.

 

Appointment of member of the Pontifical Committee of Historical Sciences

The Holy Father has appointed the distinguished Professor Emilio Marin as member of the Pontifical Committee of Historical Sciences.
