Resignation and appointment of archbishop of Brindisi-Ostuni, Italy

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the archdiocese of Brindisi-Ostuni, Italy, presented by Archbishop Domenico Caliandro.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Giovanni Intini of Tricarico as archbishop of Brindisi-Ostuni.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Giovanni Intini was born on 28 December 1965 in Gioia del Colle, Bari, in the diocese of Conversano-Monopoli. He entered the Pontifical Pius XI Regional Seminary of Molfetta, and was ordained a priest on 29 June 1990, incardinated in the diocese of Conversano-Monopoli.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of the Cathedral Basilica of Conversano and spiritual father in the minor seminary (1990-1994); animator at the Regional Seminary of Molfetta (1995-1998); rector of the minor seminary of Conversano (1998-2007); parish priest of Maria Santissima della Natività in Noci (2007-2008); spiritual father of the Regional Seminary of Molfetta (2008-2014).

He has also served as a teacher of Catholic religion, diocesan unitary assistant for Catholic Action and director of the Regional Vocations Centre.

Since 2014 he has served as archpriest of the Maria Santissima della Madia Concathedral and zonal vicar for the historic centre, episcopal delegate for the ongoing formation of the clergy, young priests and permanent deacons, and member of the Presbyteral Council and the College of Consultors.

On 7 December 2016 he was appointed bishop of Tricarico and received episcopal consecration the following 22 February 2017.

Within the Italian Episcopal Conference, he is a member of the Commission for the Doctrine of the Faith, Proclamation and Catechesis.

 

 

Appointment of bishop of Multan, Pakistan

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Yousaf Sohan of the clergy of the diocese of Multan, Pakistan, until now parish priest of the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer, as bishop of the same diocese.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Yousaf Sohan was born on 2 September 1958 in Layyaha, in the diocese of Multan. He attended Saint Mary’s Minor Seminary in Lahore and studied philosophy and theology at the Christ the King Major Seminary in Karachi.

He was ordained a priest on 3 July 1985.

After ordination, he first served as deputy parish priest of the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer in Multan (1985-1986); parish priest of the Holy Eucharist in Mian Chanu and head of the La Salle School hostel (1986-1989); and deputy parish priest of Saint Joseph the Worker in Khanewal (1990-1991). He then carried out specialized studies in biblical theology at the Pontifical Urban University, Rome (1991-1992), and went on to hold the officers of parish priest of Saint Peter in Vehari (1992-2000); parish priest of Saint Joseph in Fatehpur (2001-2002); since 2002, vicar general; parish priest of Saint Joseph the Worker in Khanewal (2002-2011); parish priest of Our Lady of Loreto in Multan (2011-2014); parish priest of the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer in Multan (2014-2016); and parish priest of the Holy Cross in Rahim Yar Khan (2016-2018).

In addition, he has served as head of vocations at diocesan level, chaplain for young people, director of diocesan Caritas, director of the Catechestic and Biblical Commissions, and the Commissions for Real Estate and Justice and Peace, and member of the National Marian Committee.

Since 2018 he has served as parish priest of the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer, and teacher at Saint Joseph’s Minor Seminary in Multan.
