Resignation and Appointment of archbishop of Gwangju, Korea
The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the archdiocese of Gwangju, Korea, presented by Archbishop Hyginus Hee-joong kim.
The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Simon Ok hyun-jin, until now titular of Pederodiano and auxiliary of the same see, as archbishop of the same archdiocese.
Curriculum vitae
Archbishop-elect Simon Ok hyun-jin was born on 5 March 1968 in Muan, in the archdiocese of Gwangju. He was ordained a priest on 26 January 1994.
He was elected titular bishop of Pederodiana and auxiliary of the archdiocese of Gwangju on 12 May 2011, and consecrated on 6 July of the same year.
Within the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea, he is chair of the Committee for Immigrants and Foreign Residents in Korea.
He is a member of the Committee for the Doctrine of the Faith and for Social Affairs and, since 2018, he is chair of the Committee for Social Communication.
