Resignation and appointment of bishop of Kitale, Kenya

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Kitale, Kenya, presented by Bishop Maurice Anthony Crowley, S.P.S.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Henry Juma Odonya, of the clergy of Edloret, until now formator at the House of Formation of the Society of Saint Patrick for the Foreign Missions in South Africa, as bishop of the same diocese.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Henry Juma Odonya was born on 10 December 1976 in Nairobi. He studied philosophy at Saint Augustine’s Senior Seminary in Mabanga and theology at Saint Thomas Aquinas Senior Seminary in Nairobi.

He was ordained a priest on 25 February 2006 and incardinated in the diocese of Eldoret.

He has held the following offices and carried out further studies: parish vicar of Kapcherop (2006-2008) and of Ndalat, both in the diocese of Eldoret (2008-2009), parish priest of Kapcherop (2009-2011) and of Kolongolo, diocese of Kitale, as a fidei donum priest (2011-2013); president of the Association of fidei donum priests in Kenya (2011-2014); parish priest of Chepchoina, diocese of Kitale (2013-2015), of Ndalat and president of the Diocesan Priestly Association (2015-2016). He continued his studies in Rome, receiving a licentiate in missiology from the Pontifical Urban University (2016-2019), and went on to serve as parish vicar of Huruma, diocese of Eldoret (2019-2020). Since 2020, he has served as formator at the House of Formation of the Society of Saint Patrick for the Foreign Missions, in South Africa.

 

Appointment of bishop of Kengtung, Myanmar

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop John Saw Yaw Han, until now titular of Buffada and auxiliary of the archdiocese of Yangon, as bishop of the diocese of Kengtung, Myanmar.

 

Appointment of bishop of Angra, Portugal

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Armando Esteves Domingues, until now titular bishop of Centenaria and auxiliary of the diocese of Porto, as bishop of the diocese of Angra, Portugal.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Armando Esteves Domingues was born on 10 March 1957 in Oleiros, in the diocese of Portalegre-Castelo Branco. He attended the diocesan seminary of Viseu and was ordained a priest on 13 January 1982, and incardinated in the same diocese.

He has held the following offices: parish priest in several parishes; military chaplain; professor of moral and religious Catholic education; diocesan treasurer; regional assistant of Catholic scouts; founding parish priest of Nossa Senhora do Viso, and vicar general.

On 27 October 2018, he was appointed titular bishop of Centenaria and auxiliary of the diocese of Porto, receiving episcopal ordination on the following 16 December. Within the Portuguese Episcopal Conference, he is chair of the Missão e Nova Evangelização Commission, as well as member of the Laicado e Família Commission.
