Appointment of bishop of Merlo-Moreno, Argentina
The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Juan José Chaparro Stivanello, C.M.F., as bishop of the diocese of Merlo-Moreno, Argentina, transferring him from the diocese of San Carlos de Bariloche.
Curriculum vitae
Bishop Juan José Chaparro Stivanello, C.M.F., was born on 22 July 1953 in Colonia Freitas, in the province of Entre Ríos, Argentina.
He entered the minor seminary of the Congregation of the Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Claretians) in Villa del Rosario, and was ordained a priest on 12 April 1980.
From 1979 to 1981 he was auxiliary of postulants and then of novices. In 1983 he obtained a licentiate in dogmatic theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
He has held the following positions: prefect of missionary theologians, missionaries in formation and the Centro de Estudios Filosóficos y Teológicos, as well as professor, and vicar (1994) at Villa Claret; provincial superior of Argentina-Uruguay in 1996 and re-elected successively in 1999 and 2012; provincial coordinator of evangelization, and assigned to the Community of Inca, in Montevideo (2005); consultor of the province of San José del Sur (2011); superior of the Community of Lambaré (2013).
On 9 July 2013, he was elected bishop of the diocese of San Carlos Bariloche and received episcopal ordination on 28 September 2013.
