Resignation and appointment of bishop of Coxim, Brazil

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Coxim, Brazil, presented by Bishop Antonino Migliore.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Otair Nicoletti, of the clergy of the diocese of Dourados, until now vicar general and rector of the diocesan seminary, as bishop of Coxim, Brazil.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Otair Nicoletti was born on 6 April 1962 in Fernandópolis, diocese of Jales. He attended the Seminário Maior Regional Maria Mãe de Igreja in Campo Grande-MS, and in the same city he carried out his studies in philosophy at the Universidade Católica Dom Bosco (1989) and in theology at the Instituto Teológico João Paulo II (1994).

He received priestly ordination on 18 June 1994, and was incardinated in the diocese of Dourados, where he held the following roles: parish vicar of São Paulo Apóstolo in Ivinhema-MS and of Imaculado Coração de Maria in Nova Andradina-MS; parish priest of Divin Espírito Santo in Ponta Porã-MS, of Santa Teresinha in Dourados-MS, of Santo André in Dourados-MS; rector of the Nossa Senhora Aparecida diocesan shrine in Dourados-MS; and rector of the Sagrado Coração de Jesus seminary in Dourados-MS.

In addition, he has served as diocesan coordinator of vocational animation; representative of the clergy; member of the Presbyteral Council, the College of Consultors and the diocesan Council of Economic Affairs; member of the diocesan pastoral coordination team; member of the coordination team of the diocesan structure for the recovery of victims of substance abuse.

 

Appointment of coadjutor archbishop of Taranto, Italy

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Ciro Miniero as coadjutor archbishop of Taranto, Italy, transferring him from the diocese of Vallo della Lucania.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop-elect Ciro Miniero was born on 31 January 1958 in Naples, in the province and archdiocese of the same name. He entered the major archepiscopal seminary of Naples, and was ordained a priest on 19 June 1982.

In 1995 he was awarded a licentiate in pastoral theology at the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy – Sezione San Tommaso.

He has held the following offices: teacher of religion (1981-1992); vicar of Ave Gratia Plena in Barra (1982) and subsequently parish priest of the same parish (1989); spiritual father at the archepiscopal major seminary; member of the Presbyteral Council; member of the Commission for the Continuing Formation of the Clergy; member of the diocesan pastoral animation team; member of the Regional Commission for the Clergy; dean of the then-XVIII deanery (1994-1997); episcopal vicar of the then-VII pastoral zone (1997); diocesan bursar (1999-2008); dean of the IX deanery (2007); member of the administration board of the archepiscopal seminary (2008).

He was appointed bishop of Vallo della Lucania on 7 May 2011, and received episcopal consecration the following 19 June.

Within the Episcopal Conference of Campania, he has served as bishop delegate of the Subsidy Sector and the Communications Sector, and bursar.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of Niterói, Brazil

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Geraldo de Paula Souza, C.SS.R., parish priest of Nossa Senhora do Perpétuo Socorro in São Paulo-SP, as auxiliary bishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of Niterói, Brazil, assigning him the titular see of Tinista.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Geraldo de Paula Souza, C.SS.R., was born on 1 November 1961 in Assaí, diocese of Cornélio Procópio, in the State of Paraná. He carried out his studies in philosophy in the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas-SP and in theology at the Instituto de Teologia de São Paulo (ITESP). He then attended courses in psychology at the UNIMARCO University in São Paulo-SP, in vocational guidance in the Sedes Sapientiae Institute in São Paulo-SP and in social psychology in the Pontifical Catholic University of Goiás in Goiânia-GO.

After giving his religious vows in the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, he received priestly ordination on 29 August 1992. Within his religious institute, he exercised his ministry as formator in the following communities: House of Formation in Mauá-SP (1989-1992); philosophy in São Paulo-SP (1992-1998) and in Campinas-SP (2006-2008); theology in São Paulo-SP (1999-2002) and preparatory in Aparecida-SP.

In addition, he has served as vocational promoter in São Paulo-SP (2009-2010), director of the House of Formation in São Paulo-SP (2011), collaborator at the National Shrine of Nossa Senhora Aparecida in Aparecida-SP (2012-2014), missionary in Tietê-SP (2015-2016), and parish priest of Santíssimo Redentor in Amadora, Lisbon, Portugal (2016-2019).
