Appointment of bishop of Caldas, Colombia

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Juan Fernando Franco Sánchez, of the clergy of the diocese of Caldas, Colombia, until now diocesan administrator of the diocese of the same diocese, as bishop of Caldas, Colombia.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Juan Fernando Franco Sánchez was born on 1 June 1965 in Barbosa, diocese of Girardota. After attending the major seminary of Caldas, he was awarded a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and theology from the Pontifical Bolivarian University of Medellín, Colombia, and a licentiate in canon law from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome.

He received priestly ordination on 29 March 2003, for the clergy of the archdiocese of Caldas.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar at Nuestra Señora de los Dolores in Titiribi and in the Cathedral of Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes in Caldas; diocesan delegate for youth pastoral care; chaplain of the Corporación Universitaria Lassalista of Caldas; parish priest of the Transfiguración del Señor in Caldas; rector of the major seminary; vicar general; diocesan chancellor; president of the Diocesan Tribunal and judicial vicar; diocesan delegate for family pastoral care and, since 2021, diocesan administrator of Caldas.

 

Appointment of bishop of Digne, France

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Emmanuel Gobilliard, until now auxiliary bishop of Lyon, as bishop of Digne, France.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Emmanuel Gobilliard was born on 18 February 1968 in Saumur, in the diocese of Angers. In 1989 he entered the seminary of Le Puy-en-Velay, and in 1993 he continued his studies at the Pontifical French Seminary and, subsequently, at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. In 1997 he was awarded a degree in moral theology from the Pontifical John Paul II Institute in Rome.

He was ordained a priest on 29 June 1997 for the diocese of Le Puy-en-Velay.

He has held the following offices: diocesan head of student chaplaincy, coordinator of youth pastoral care, chaplain of various high schools and colleges (1997-2006); since 2006, rector of the Cathedral of Le Puy-en-Velay; delegate for the formation of ministers, member of the episcopal council; during his missionary service in Madagascar (2011-2012), teacher in the interdiocesan seminary of Fianaransoa and animator of the Tanjomoha Youth Centre; since 2015, accompanier of young priests of the ecclesiastical province of Clermont.

On 16 June 2016 he was appointed as titular bishop of Carpentras and auxiliary of Lyon. He received episcopal ordination the following 11 September.

He is vicar general of Lyon. Within the French Episcopal Council, he is a member of the Council for Communication. In addition, he is chair of the guidance council of Radios chrétiennes francophones (RCF).

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Quilmes, Argentina

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Eduardo Gonzalo Redondo Castanera, member of the Hermandad de Sacerdotes Operarios Diocesanos and rector of the San Pio X major seminary of the archdiocese of Huancayo, Peru, as auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Quilmes, Argentina, assigning him the titular see of Tingaria.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Eduardo Gonzalo Redondo Castanera was born on 18 February 1967 in Buenos Aires. After entering the Hermandad de Sacerdotes Operarios Diocesanos as an aspirant, he completed his theological studies at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina of Buenos Aires.

He was ordained a priest on 6 December 1998, and incardinated in the diocese of Santos, Brazil.

He was awarded a licentiate in dogmatic theology with specialization in missionology from the faculty of Nossa Senhora de la Assunçao of São Paulo, Brazil.

He has held the following offices: vice rector of the diocesan seminary of São Paulo in Santos, Brazil, parish priest of São Gerardo Magela in São Bernardo do Campo; rector of the Aspirantado Mosén Sol of Buenos Aires, Argentina; delegate general for the Cono Sur, and member of the general council of the Hermandad de Sacerdotes Operarios Diocesanos, formator in the San Basilio Magno major seminary of Santiago de Cuba, Cuba; head of youth pastoral care of the archdiocese and secretary of the National Commission of Vocational Pastoral Care of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Cuba.

 

Appointment of theologian of the Apostolic Penitentiary

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Jaime Emilio González Magaña S.J., full professor at the Institute of Spirituality of the Pontifical Gregorian University, as theologian of the Apostolic Penitentiary.

 

Appointment of members of the governing council of the Pontifical Academy for Life

The Holy Father has appointed the following as members of the governing council of the Pontifical Academy for Life: Bishop Noël Simard of Valleyfield, Canada; the Reverend Msgr. Philippe Bordeyne, dean of the Pontifical John Paul II Theological Institute for Marriage and Family Sciences; the Reverend Fr. Jacques Koudoubi Simporé, M.I., rector of the University of Saint Thomas Aquinas and director of the Pietro Annigoni Centre for Biomolecular Research in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso; the Reverend Sr. Margarita Bofarull Buñuel, R.S.C.J., lecturer in moral theology at the Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas in Antiguo Cuscatlán, El Salvador; the distinguished Professor Laura Palazzani, professor of philosophy and law at the Libera Università Maria Santissima Assunta in Rome, Italy.
