Appointment of bishop of Acarigua-Araure, Venezuela

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Gerardo Ernesto Salas Arjona, of the clergy of the metropolitan archdiocese of Mérida, Venezuela, until now under-secretary of the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference, as bishop of Acarigua-Araure, Venezuela.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Gerardo Ernesto Salas Arjona was born on 20 October 1966 in Bailadores, metropolitan archdiocese of Mérida. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology in the major seminary of Mérida, obtaining a licentiate in theology from the Santa Giustina Institute of Pastoral Liturgy in Padua.

He received priestly ordination on 22 August 1992.

He has served as parish priest of Espíritu Santo in Ejido, San Buenaventura in Matriz, Santiago Apóstol in La Punta, San Miguel Arcángel in El Llano, and Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Mérida; professor and academic director of the San Buenaventura archdiocesan major seminary; assistant and spiritual director of the Cursillos de Cristiandad Movement, and from 2016 to date, under-secretary of the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference.
