Resignation and appointment of bishop of Mazara del Vallo, Italy

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Mazara del Vallo, Italy, presented by Bishop Domenico Mogavero.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Msgr. Angelo Giurdanella, until now vicar general of the diocese of Noto, as bishop of the diocese of Mazara del Vallo.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Angelo Giurdanella was born on 24 February 1956 in Modica. After carrying out his studies in the minor seminary of Noto, he attended the Saint Paul Theological Studium in Catania, concluding his formation in philosophy and theology.

He was ordained a priest on 27 December 1983, and incardinated in the diocese of Noto.

He has held the following offices: vice rector of the diocesan seminary (1982-1984); parish vicar of Ecce Homo al Pantheon in Noto (1983-1984); parish vicar of Sacro Cuore (1984-1988) and San Giovanni Battista e San Paolo in Avola (1988-1989); parish priest of San Giovanni Battista e San Paolo in Avola (1989-2010); since 2008, member of the diocesan Presbyteral Council and the College of Consultors, and diocesan unitary assistant for Italian Catholic Action; episcopal vicar for the clergy (2009-2010); since 2010, vicar general of the diocese and rector of the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Nicholas; since 2011, Chaplain of His Holiness and, since 2019, director of diocesan Caritas.
