Appointment of bishop of Barishal, Bangladesh
The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Emmanuel Kanon Rozario, until now vicar general of the diocese of Rajshahi, as bishop of the diocese of Bangladesh:
Curriculum vitae
Msgr. Emmanuel Kanon Rozario was born on 8 February 1963 in Pabna, in the diocese of Rajshahi. He studied philosophy and theology at the Holy Spirit Major Seminary in Dhaka.
He was ordained a priest on 28 December 1993.
After priestly ordination he first served as deputy parish priest in Bonpara, Rajshahi (1994.1997). He was then awarded a doctorate in biblical theology from the Pontifical Urban University, Rome (1997-2002). He went on to serve as parish priest in Borni, Rajshahi (2002-2007), dean of studies (2007-2011), vice rector (2012) and rector of the Dhaka Major Seminary (2012-2018), parish priest in Kolimnogor, Rajshahi, and head of the diocesan office for Development and Administration (2018-2020).
From 2021 to date, he has served as vicar general, parish priest of the Cathedral of Rajshahi, and executive secretary of the Doctrinal Commission of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Bangladesh, and of the Office for Families and Youth of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC).
