Resignation and appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Valladolid, Spain
The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of Valladolid, Spain, presented by His Eminence Cardinal Ricardo Blásquez Pérez.
The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Luis Javier Argüello García as metropolitan archbishop of Valladolid, transferring him from the titular see of Ipagro and the office of auxiliary of Valladolid.
Curriculum vitae
Bishop Luis Javier Argüello García was born on 16 May 1953 in Meneses de Campos, province of Palencia. He was awarded a licentiate in canon law from the University of Valladolid, and carried out his ecclesiastical studies in the school of the Augustinians.
He was ordained a priest in Valladolid on 27 September 1986.
Since ordination he has held the following offices: formator (1986-1987) and rector of the diocesan seminary (1997-2001), delegate for vocational pastoral care (1997-2012), diocesan administrator of Valladolid (2009-2010), vicar general and moderator of the Curia (2011-2016), and member of the Commission for the Permanent Diaconate (2014-2016).
He was appointed as titular bishop of Ipagro and auxiliary of Valladolid on 14 April 2016, and was consecrated the following 3 June. He has served as a member of the Episcopal Pastoral Commission and the Commission for Seminaries and Universities (2017-2018). Since November 2018 he has been secretary general of the Spanish Bishops’ Conference.
