Resignation and appointment of bishop of Jundiaí, Brazil

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Jundiaí, Brazil, presented by Bishop Vicente Costa.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Arnaldo Carvalheiro Neto as bishop of the diocese of Jundiaí, transferring him from the see of Itapeva.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Arnaldo Carvalheiro Neto was born on 11 April 1967 in São Paulo, in the metropolitan archdiocese of the same name.

He carried out his studies in philosophy at the Faculdade Salesiana de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras (UNISAL) in Lorena-SP (1989-1991) and in theology at the Instituto Teológico Rainha dos Apóstolos in Marília-SP (1993-1996). He then attended courses in spiritual leadership at the Institute for Spiritual Leadership in Chicago-U.S.A. (2002-2003) and in hospital chaplaincy at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin, Ireland (2006). In addition, he holds a licentiate in pastoral counselling from Loyola University Chicago (2003-2006).

He received priestly ordination on 17 May 1997 and was incardinated in the diocese of Araçatuba, where he held the following offices: parish priest of São Brás in Birigui-SP (1997-2000) and of São Pedro Apóstolo in Gabriel Monteiro-SP (2007-2016), rector of the preparatory seminary and member of the Presbyteral Council and the College of Consultors. During his stay in Chicago for study purposes, he served as parish vicar of Saint Roman (2003-2006). He was also spiritual director of the Instituto Teológico Rainha dos Apóstolos in Marília-SP (2007-2014).

On 4 May 2016 he was appointed as coadjutor bishop of Itapeva, and received episcopal ordination the following 17 July, becoming bishop on 19 October 2016.
