Resignation and appointment of bishop of Yendi, Ghana

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Yendi, Ghana, presented by Bishop Vincent Sowah Boi-Nai, S.V.D.

The Holy Father has appointed Msgr. Matthew Yitiereh, until now vicar general of the metropolitan archdiocese of Tamale, as bishop of the diocese of Yendi, Ghana.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Matthew Yitiereh was born 1 January 1961, in the Upper West Region, diocese of Wa. He studied at Saint Francis Xavier Minor Seminary in Wa, Saint Hubert Seminary Senior High in Kumasi and Saint Victor’s Major Seminary in Tamale.

He was ordained a priest on 22 July 1995 for the metropolitan archdiocese of Tamale.

After ordination, he first held the roles of parish priest of Holy Spirit in Chamba (1995-1997) and Saints Peter and Paul (1998-2003), and director of diocesan youth ministry (1998-2003). He studied for a Master of Theology degree with specialization in pastoral liturgy in Ireland from 2002 to 2004. He went on to serve as master of diocesan celebrations and chairman of the administration board of the Tamale Institute of Cross-Cultural Studies (2004); administrator of the Cathedral of the Annunciation in Tamale (2004-2015); since 2015, president of the Tamale Archdiocese Priests' Association and from 2016 to date, vicar general of the metropolitan archdiocese of Tamale and parish priest of the Blessed Sacrament Church.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of Guayaquil, Ecuador

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Gustavo Adolfo Rosales Escobar, of the clergy of the metropolitan archdiocese of Cuenca, and until now rector of the seminary, as auxiliary of the metropolitan archdiocese of Guayaquil, Ecuador, assigning him the titular see of Glavinizza.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Gustavo Adolfo Rosales Escobar was born on 26 August 1964 in Valparaíso, Chile. He carried out his studies in philosophy in the seminary of Valparaíso and subsequently in that of Cuenca, Ecuador.

He was ordained a priest on 26 October 1991.

He has served as parish priest in various parishes, coordinator of pastoral care in the Zone Sur, member of the Presbyteral Council, director of the diocesan publication Dominga día del Señor, episcopal vicar and professor in the major seminary. From 2018 to the present, he has been rector of the seminary of Cuenca. He was awarded a diploma in theology, priestly formation and presbyteral ministry from the Institute of Pastoral Theology of CELAM (ITEPAL).
