Appointment of auxiliary bishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of Porto Alegre, Brazil

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Bertilo João Morsch, of the clergy of the metropolitan archdiocese of Santa Maria, until now vicar general and parish priest of the Cathedral, as auxiliary bishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of Porto Alegre, Brazil, assigning him the titular see of Bavagaliana.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Bertilo João Morsch was born on 7 December 1964 in Sobradinho, diocese of Cachoeira do Sul, in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. From 1982 to 1986 he studied philosophy and theology at the Institute of the Pallottine Fathers in Santa Maria-RS. He was awarded a licentiate in canon law at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome (2001-2003).

On 7 January 1989, he received priestly ordination and was incardinated in the metropolitan archdiocese of Santa Maria, where he held the following positions: parish vicar in Júlio de Castilhos-RS (1989-1990) and in São Pedro do Sul-RS (1991-1994), then parish priest in the latter (1995-2000); assistant in the minor seminary (2001); rector and parish priest of the Shrine of Nossa Senhora Medianeira de todas as graças (2003-2013); professor in the Pallottine Faculty; judicial vicar; rector of the São João Maria Vianney major seminary (2013-2021); and parish priest of the Ressurreição parish (2013-2021).

To date, he has served as vicar general and parish priest of Santa Maria-RS Cathedral.

 

Appointment of apostolic administrator of the ordinariate for Armenian Catholics of Eastern Europe

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Mikael Basselé, of the Institute of the Patriarchal Clergy of Bzommar, until now parish priest of the Holy Cross in Belmont, in the United States of America, as apostolic administrator of the ordinariate for Armenian Catholics of Eastern Europe.
