Appointment of auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Cleveland, U.S.A.
The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Michael G. Woost as auxiliary of the diocese of Cleveland, United States of America, assigning him the titular see of Sertei. Msgr. Woost, of the clergy of the diocese of Cleveland, is currently associate professor of liturgical and sacramental theology at the Saint Mary Seminary.
Msgr. Michael G. Woost was born on 17 September 1958 in Cleveland, in the diocese of the same name. He was awarded a bachelor’s degree from the Borromeo Seminary in Wickliffe, Ohio (1980). He obtained a master’s degree in theology from the Saint Mary Seminary in Cleveland (1986) and a licentiate in sacramental theology from the Catholic University of America in Washington (2000).
He was ordained a priest on 9 June 1984 for the diocese of Cleveland.
Since ordination, he has held the following offices: parish vicar of the Immaculate Conception parish in Madison (1984-1986), and vocational director (1989-1995). From 2000 to date, he has served as associate professor of liturgical and sacramental theology at the Saint Mary Seminary, and since 2022, interim director of the diocesan Office for Divine Worship in Cleveland.
