Resignation and appointment of archbishop of Monreale, Italy

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the archdiocese of Monreale, Italy, presented by Archbishop Michele Pennisi.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Msgr. Gualtiero Isacchi, of the clergy of the suburbicarian diocese of Albano, until now episcopal bishop for pastoral coordination and diocesan bursar, as archbishop of Monreale, Italy.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Gualtieri Isacchi was born on 7 September 1970 in Lecco. He entered the minor seminary of the metropolitan archdiocese of Milan and subsequently the diocesan seminary of Albano Laziale. In 1990 he entered the International John Paul II Philosophical-Theological Seminary, and was awarded a bachelor’s degree in sacred theology from the Pontifical Lateran University.

On 7 December 1994 he was ordained a priest, and incardinated in the diocese of Albano.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Sant’Eugenio I Papa (1994-1999), director of the diocesan centre for Orators and director of the diocesan office of youth pastoral care (1997-2006), director of the office of vocational pastoral care (1998-2000), parish priest of Sant’Eugenio I Papa (1999-2004), member of the diocesan Presbyteral Council (since 2003), member of the diocesan Pastoral Council (since 2004), director of the episcopal seminary (2004-2006), interim director of the Social Communications Office (2005-2006). From 2006 to the present, he has served as episcopal vicar for pastoral coordination and, since 2010, diocesan bursar.

 

Appointment of bishop of the eparchy of Toronto of the Ukrainians, Canada

The Holy Father has appointed, as bishop of the eparchy of Toronto of the Ukrainians, Bishop Bryan Bayda, C.Ss.R., until now apostolic administrator sede vacante of the same circumscription, transferring him from the eparchy of Saskatoon of the Ukrainians.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Bryan Bayda was born on 21 August 1961 in Saskatoon, Canada.

He entered the minor seminary of the Redemptorist Fathers, and completed his novitiate in Oconomovoc, Wisconsin, United States of America, giving his religious vows on 13 September 1986. He was ordained a priest on 30 May 1987.

He obtained a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Saint Michael’s College in Toronto in 1982, and a master’s degree from the same Institute in 1986. He was then awarded a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Manitoba in 1991, and a bachelor’s degree in oriental studies at the Sheptytsky Institute, Ottawa, in 1998.

He collaborated in various parishes and educational institutions run by the Ukrainian Redemptorist Fathers in Canada, including Saint Vladimir’s College in Roblin, the Redeemer House of Toronto. In Winnipeg he directed the “Welcome Home”, a structure supporting the poor and abandoned.

On 2 May 2008, the Holy Father Benedict XVI appointed him as bishop of the eparchy of Saskatoon, of which he took possession on 27 June.

Since 9 November 2019 he has also served as apostolic administrator of the eparchy of Toronto of the Ukrainians.

The Holy Father has appointed Archbishop Lawrence Huculak, metropolitan of Winnipeg of the Ukrainians, as apostolic administrator sede vacante of the eparchy of Saskatoon of the Ukrainians.
