Appointment of the prefect, secretary and under-secretary of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development;

The Holy Father has appointed as prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, His Eminence Cardinal Michael Czerny, S.J., until now interim prefect of the same Dicastery.

The Holy Father has appointed as secretary of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, Sr. Alessandra Smerilli, F.M.A., until now interim secretary of the same Dicastery.

The Holy Father has appointed as under-secretary of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, also with responsibility for the Migrants and Refugees Section and Special Projects, Fr. Fabio Baggio, C.S., until now under-secretary of the Migrants and Refugees Section of the same Dicastery.

 

Appointment of secretary for the Doctrinal Section and the secretary for the Disciplinary Section of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith;

The Holy Father has appointed as secretary for the Doctrinal Section of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the Reverend Msgr. Armando Matteo, until now adjunct under-secretary of the same Dicastery.

The Holy Father has appointed as secretary of the Disciplinary Section of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the Reverend Msgr. John Joseph Kennedy, until now office head of the same Congregation.

 

Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Armando Matteo

Msgr. Armando Matteo was born in Catanzaro, Italy, on 21 September 1970. He was ordained a priest on 20 December 1997 for the metropolitan archdiocese of Catanzaro-Squillace. He was awarded a degree in philosophy from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan, and a doctorate in theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome. He has exercised various ministries in his archdiocese. He taught fundamental theology at the Pontifical Urban University. Since 12 April 2021 he has served as adjunct under-secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

 

Curriculum vitae of Msgr. John Joseph Kennedy

Msgr. John Joseph Kennedy was born in Dublin, Ireland, on 15 July 1968. He was ordained a priest on 13 July 1993 for the metropolitan archdiocese of Dublin. He was awarded a licentiate and a doctorate in canon law at the Pontifical Gregorian University. He has held a number of offices in Ireland, including deputy parish priest of Saint Agnes’ Church, and then Saint Nicholas of Myra in Dublin. Since 2003 he has been an official of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, and since 2017, office head of the Disciplinary Section of the same Dicastery.

 

Resignation of metropolitan archbishop of Villavicencio, Colombia;

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of Villavicencio, Colombia, presented by Archbishop Óscar Urbina Ortega.

 

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Nicosia, Italy;

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Nicosia, Italy, presented by Bishop Salvatore Muratore.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Giuseppe Schillaci as bishop of Nicosia, Italy, transferring him from the diocese of Lamezia Terme.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Giuseppe Schillaci was born on 8 January 1958 in Adrano, in the province and metropolitan archdiocese of Catania. After graduating and studying philosophy at the State University of Catania, he began his training at the Pontifical French Seminary in Rome. He graduated in philosophy from the Pontifical Gregorian University.

He was ordained a priest on 4 July 1987 and incardinated in the metropolitan archdiocese of Catania. After his ordination he served as: deputy parish priest and parish priest in Adrano from 1988 to 1992; vice-rector in the seminary from 1994 to 1998; episcopal vicar for culture from 1999 to 2006; and vice-principal of the Studio Teologico San Paolo in Catania from 1999 to 2007.

Since 2008 he has been rector of the archepiscopal Seminary of Catania.

He was elected bishop of Lamezia Terme on 3 May 2019, and received episcopal consecration on the following 6 July.

He is currently secretary of the Calabrian Bishops’ Conference.

 

Appointment of bishop of Matadi, Democratic Republic of the Congo;

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend André Giraud Pindi Mwanza, of the clergy of Matadi and until now apostolic administrator of the same diocese, as bishop of Matadi, Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Msgr. André Giraud Pindi Mwanza was born on 24 July 1964 in Kindomingielo, diocese of Matadi. He entered the minor seminary of Kibula (1976-1984) and completed his studies in philosophy at the major seminary of Mayidi (1984-1988), and in theology at the Saint Jean XXIII major seminary in Kinshasa (1988-1993).

He was ordained a priest on 18 September 1994.

After priestly ordination, he first studied for a licentiate in canon law at the Catholic University of Congo in Kinshasa (1994-1997); and served as as parish vicar at Notre Dame de la Sagesse in Kinshasa and as a lecturer in law at the interdiocesan major seminary in Mayidi (1997-2002). He was awarded a doctorate in Utroque Iure at the Pontifical Lateran University (2002-2006). He went on to serve as a fidei donum and parish priest in solidum in the Notre Dame de Compassion pastoral unit (2006-2013) and defender of the bond in the diocese of Lausanne, Geneva and Fribourg (2006-2019); moderator and dean of the pastoral unit of Nyon-Terre Sainte, diocese of Lausanne (2013-2019); vicar general of the diocese of Matadi (2019-2021) and from 2021, apostolic administrator sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis of the same See.

 

Appointment of bishop of Iquique, Chile

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Isauro Ulises Covili Linfati, O.F.M., until now vicar general of the Order of Friars Minor, as bishop of Iquique, Chile.

Msgr. Isauro Ulises Covili Linfati, O.F.M., was born on 22 March 1961 in Lumaco, diocese of Temuco. He completed a specialization course in youth ministry at the Instituto Superior de Pastoral de Juventud (ISPAJ) in Chile.

He began his novitiate on 16 July 1981, made his solemn profession on 20 March 1987, and was ordained a priest on 23 November 1990.

He was responsible for the Chilean Province O.F.M. of the Oficina General de Justicia, Paz e Integridad de la Creación, JPIC, Guardian of the community of Saint Maximilian Mary Kolbe in Santiago, local vicar in the missionary house with the Mapuche communities in Carahue, guardian and master of the professed in the St. Philip of Jesus Fraternity, Director of the magazine Cuadernos Franciscanos of the Centre of Franciscan Spirituality for Latin America, pre-capitular secretary of the Provincial Chapter, provincial definitor and moderator for ongoing formation, master of novices in the fraternity of Rapel de Navidad, visitator general for the provinces of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in Mexico, provincial secretary for formation, vicar and master of postulants in the fraternity of Valparaíso, visitator general for the province of San Francisco Solano in Peru, secretary for formation of the Conference for the Southern Cone, guardian and parish priest in the fraternity of La Serena, provincial vicar and provincial minister for Chile and, from 14 July 2021 until now, vicar general of the Order of Friars Minor, O.F.M.
