Appointment of bishop of Kokstad, South Africa

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Thulani Victor Mbuyisa, C.M.M., until now superior general of the Missionaries of Mariannhill, as bishop of the diocese of Kokstad, South Africa.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Thulani Victor Mbuyisa, C.M.M., was born on 13 February 1973 in Exobho, in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, archdiocese of Durban. He entered the Congregation of Missionaries of Mariannhill in 1992, and gave his religious vows on 2 February 1997. He carried out his studies in philosophy (1994-1996) and theology (1996-1999) at Saint Joseph’s Theological Institute in Cedara, South Africa.

He was ordained a priest on 4 March 2000, and subsequently held the following offices: parish vicar of Saint Michael’s Mission, chaplain of Mangosuthu University of Technology and Saint Francis College in Mariannhill, and deputy director of novices (2001-2002). He was awarded a licentiate in canon law from Saint Paul University, Ottawa, Canada (2002-2004). He went on to serve as chaplain of Mangosuthu University of Technology and deputy director of novices (2005-2007), superior and formator at the Nivard House of formation in Nairobi, Kenya (2010), counsellor and secretary general (2010-2012), vicar general and procurator of the Congregation of the Missionaries of Mariannhill (2012-2016). From October 2016 to date, he has served as superior general of the same Congregation.
