Resignation and appointment of archbishop of San Luis Potosí, Mexico

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the archdiocese of San Luis Potosí, Mexico, presented by Archbishop Jesús Carlos Cabrero Romero.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Jore Alberto Cavazos Arizpe of San Juan de los Lagos as metropolitan archbishop of San Luis Potosí, Mexico.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop-elect Cavazos Arizpe was born in Monterrey on 31 July 1962. He studied at the seminary of Monterrey and was ordained a priest on 31 May 1989. He holds a licentiate in moral theology from the Universidad Pontificia de México.

After various commitments in the archdiocese, he was appointed titular bishop of Isola and auxiliary of Monterrey on 7 January 2009, receiving episcopal consecration the following 26 March; in February 2012 he was appointed apostolic administrator of the same archdiocese, and later also apostolic administrator of Nuevo Laredo.

On 2 April 2016, he was appointed bishop of San Juan de los Lagos. He is, in addition, general treasurer of the Mexican Episcopal Conference.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of San Juan de Cuyo, Argentina

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Gustavo Manuel Larrazábal, C.M.F., rector of the Nuestra Señora de Lourdes  Shrine in Mendoza, as auxiliary bishop of San Juan de Cuyo, Argentina, assigning him the titular see of Buslacena.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Larrazábal was born on 31 January 1961 in San José, in the archdiocese of Mendoza. He made his first profession on 14 January 1990, and his solemn profession on 25 March 1995. He was ordained to the priesthood on 20 July 1996.

He has held the following positions: provincial vicar of his congregation; prefect of the economy of the Argentina-Uruguay Province and director of the Editorial Claretiana in Buenos Aires. In addition, he served in the San Jorge parish of Florencio Varela.

He was dean and vice dean in the archdiocese of Mendoza and, in 2021, was appointed delegate for consecrated life in the Archdiocesan Presbyteral Council. He is currently rector of the Nuestra Señora de Lourdes Shrine in the same archdiocese.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Tacna y Moquegua, Peru

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Juan Carlos Asqui Pilco of the clergy of Tacna y Moquegua, Peru, and rector of the San José Seminary, as auxiliary bishop of the same diocese, assigning him the titular see of Arpi.

Curriculum vitae

Monsignor Juan Carlos Asqui Pilco was born on 7 December 7 1972 in Tacna, in the diocese of Tacna y Moquegua. He studied philosophy at Christ the Priest Seminary in Colombia and later obtained a bachelor’s degree in theology at ISET - Instituto Superior de Estudios Teológicos Juan XXIII in Lima. He was ordained a priest on 23 April 2000, and was incardinated in the diocese of Tacna y Moquegua.

He has held the following positions: pastoral assistant in Coruca, Inclan and Poquera in Tacna (2000); parish vicar of the San Jerónimo parish in Ilo and supervisor of the Youth Movement (2001); parish administrator of the San Jerónimo parish in Ilo and spiritual supervisor of ecclesial and charismatic groups (2002); parish priest of the Santísima Trinidad parish in Ilo (2003) and the Señor de Locumba Shrine in Tacna (2004-2006); bursar and member of the Economic Council of the diocese of Tacna y Moquegua (2006-2013); parish priest of the San José Misericordioso parish in Tacna (2007-2013); bursar of the diocesan San José diocesan seminary in Tacna (2013); parish priest of the San Antonio de Padua parish in Moquegua (2014-2019); and member of the Presbyteral Council of Tacna y Moquegua (2014).

Since 2014, he has served as episcopal vicar for pastoral care and for the implementation of the Plan de Renovación y Evangelización de la Diócesis (PRED) and, since 2019, he has been rector of the San José diocesan seminary in Tacna.
