Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Ottawa-Cornwall, Canada

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Yvan Mathieu, S.M., until now provincial superior of the Canada East Province of the Society of Mary, as auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall, Canada, assigning him the titular see of Vazari.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Yvan Mathieu, S.M., was born on 7 March 1961 in Québec. He attended the Séminaire des Pères Maristes in Sillery, the seminary of Québec, and gave his religious vows on 31 July 1980, after his novitiate in the Society of Mary in Washington DC.

In 1983 he was awarded a bachelor’s degree in theology and, the following year, a licentiate in fine arts from Saint Paul University in Ottawa.

He was ordained a priest on 15 August 1987 in Québec. In 1993 he obtained a licentiate in sacred scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and, in 2000, the doctorate in biblical studies from the Saint Paul University of Ottawa.

He has held the following offices: teacher and pastoral agent at the Séminaire des Pères Maristes in Sillery; collaborator at the Saint Clare of Assisi parish in Québec; head of assistance to the poor in Maison Revivre and co-animator of the La Relève Movement (1984-1989), lecturer at Saint Paul University in Ottawa (2001-2014) and dean of the Faculty of Theology of the same university (2014-2018).

He is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature, and is currently provincial superior of the Canada East Province of the Society of Mary.

 

Resignation of bishop-elect of Daule, Ecuador, and appointment of apostolic administrator

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation of the bishop-elect of the diocese of Daule, Ecuador, presented by Msgr. Giovanni Battista Piccioli, and at the same time appointed Archbishop Luis Gerardo Cabrera Herrera, O.F.M., of Guayaquil, as apostolic administrator of the new circumscription.
