Appointment of bishop prelate of Tefé, Brazil

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop José Altevir da Silva, C.S.Sp., as bishop prelate of Tefé, Brazil, transferring him from the see of Cametá.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop José Altevir da Silva, C.S.Sp., was born on 30 November 1962 in Ipixuna, diocese of Cruzeiro do Sul, Acre. He attended the course in philosophy at the Interdiocesan Seminary of Manaus (1983-1984) and in theology at the major seminary of São Paulo (1987-1989; 1992). In addition, he has served as a missionary in Nigeria (1990-1991).

He gave his religious vows on 18 November 1989 in the Congregation of the Holy Spirit, for which he was ordained a priest on 6 December 1992. During the course of his priestly ministry he held the following offices: pastoral service in Belo Horizonte and Vilhena (1993-2002), formator of students of philosophy and theology in the Padre Laval Community in Jardim Planalto, São Paulo (2002-2008), executive secretary of the Episcopal Commission for Missionary Action and Interecclesial Cooperation of the Brazilian Episcopal Conference (2008-2012), and provincial superior of the Province of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit in Brazil based in São Paulo (2012-2017).

On 27 September 2017 he was appointed as bishop of Cametá and received episcopal ordination the following 16 December.

 

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Nice, France

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Nice, France, presented by Bishop André Marceau.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Jean-Philippe Nault of Digne as bishop of Nice, France.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Jean-Philippe Nault was born on 13 April 1965 in Parigi. He was ordained a priest on 5 July 1998 for the diocese of Belley-Ars. He is a member of the Saint Jean-Marie Vianney Society. On 7 November 2014 he was elected as bishop of Digne, and received episcopal consecration on 17 January 2015. Within the French Episcopal Conference, he is a member of the “Studies and Projects” Committee.

 

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Chachapoyos, Peru

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Chachapoyos, Peru, presented by Bishop Emiliano Antonio Cisneros Martínez, O.A.R.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Humberto Tapia Díaz of the clergy of the apostolic vicariate of Jaén en Perú, parish vicar of San Isidro Labrador in the same circumscription, as bishop of the diocese of Chachapoyos, Peru.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Humberto Tapia Díaz was born on 13 February 1960 in Queroqotillo, district of Cutervo, territorial prelature of Chota. He studied philosophy and theology in Arequipa and Lima (1980-1989), and was awarded a licentiate in spiritual theology and a master’s degree in development and humanitarian aid at the Comillas Pontifical University in Madrid (2003-2005).

He was ordained a priest on 2 April 1990, and incardinated in the circumscription of Sicuani, at the time a territorial prelature, where he exercised his priestly ministry from 1990 to 1995. From 1995 he was incardinated in the apostolic vicariate of Jaén en Perú, in the Peruvian Amazon jungle, covering various pastoral roles including: parish priest of the Co-Cathedral Church and vicar general (2000-2012). Since 2021 he has served as parish vicar of the parish of San Isidro Labrador, including the civil districts of Bellavista and Huabal.

 

Removal of bishop of Arecibo, Puerto Rico, and appointment of apostolic administrator ad nutum Sanctae Sedis

The Holy Father has relieved Bishop Daniel Fernández Torres from the pastoral care of the diocese of Arecibo, Puerto Rico, and has appointed Bishop Álvaro Corrada del Río, S.J., emeritus of Mayagüez, as apostolic administrator ad nutum Sanctae Sedis of the same diocese.
