Resignation and appointment of archbishop of Cuiabá, Brazil
The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of Cuiabá, Brazil, presented by Archbishop Mílton Antônio dos Santos, S.D.B.
The Pope has appointed Bishop Mário Antônio da Silva as metropolitan archbishop of Cuiabá, Brazil, transferring him from the diocese of Roraima.
Curriculum vitae
Archbishop-elect Mário Antônio da Silva was born on 17 October in Itararé, in the diocese of Itapeva, São Paulo. He studied philosophy and theology at the Divino Mestre Diocesan Seminary in Jacarezinho (1985-1991). He was then awarded a licentiate in moral theology at the Alphonsianum Academy, Rome (1996-1998).
On 21 December 1991 he received priestly ordination, and was incardinated in the diocese of Jacarezinho, where he held the following offices: spiritual director (1992-1993) and then rector of the Nossa Senhora da Assunção Minor Seminary (1994-1996), coordinator of vocational pastoral care (1993-1996), professor of moral theology and spiritual director of the Divino Mestre Major Seminary, parish vicar, parish priest and chancellor.
On 9 June 2010 he was appointed as auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Manaus, and received episcopal ordination the following 20 August. On 22 June 2016 he was appointed as bishop of Roraima.
Since May 2019 he has served as second vice president of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil.

The Holy Father has appointed the following as auxiliary bishops of the archdiocese of Concepción, Chile: the Reverend Bernardo Andrés Álvarez Tapia, of the clergy of the same archdiocese, until now rector of the archdiocesan major seminary, assigning him the titular see of Teuzi; and the Reverend Óscar Walter García Barreto, of the clergy of the same archdiocese, until now parish priest of San José of Caranilahue and episcopal bishop for the zone of Arauco of the archdiocese of Concepción, assigning him the titular see of Orta.
Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Bernardo Andrés Álvarez Tapia
Msgr. Bernardo Andrés Álvarez Tapia was born in Talcahuano, archdiocese of Concepción, on 4 August 1980. He studied at the Colegio Santa Bernardita and La Asunción High School in Talcahuano.
Before entering the major seminary of Concepción, he attended courses in engineering. After completing his studies in philosophy and theology in the seminary, he was awarded a licentiate in religious sciences and ecclesiastical studies from the Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción. He later specialized in theology at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in Santiago.
He was ordained a priest on 21 November 2009 for the archdiocese of Concepción.
He has held the following offices: parish vicar, parish administrator, parish priest and rector of the San Sebastián Shrine in Yumbel, Chile; parish priest of Santa Filomena in Cabrero; dean of the rural deanery (2014-2017); episcopal delegate for the formation of the archdiocesan department of spirituality; and member of the National Commission of Shrines and Popular Piety. Since 2020 he has served as rector of the archdiocesan major seminary.
Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Óscar Walter García Barreto
Msgr. Óscar Walter García Barreto was born on 8 August 1969 in Tala, in the diocese of Canelones, Uruguay. He carried out his studies at the San José de Tala High School. In January 1992 he entered the Congregation of the Poor Servants of Divine Providence, founded by Saint Giovanni Calabria, and concluded his studies in philosophy and theology in the formation centres of the same Congregation in Chile and Argentina. He gave his first religious profession on 2 February 1994, and was ordained a priest for the aforementioned Congregation on 14 August 1999 in Tala. In 2014 he was ordained in the archdiocese of Concepción, Chile.
He has held the following offices: collaborator at the Ciudad del Niño “Ricardo Espinosa” House for Young People in Hualpén, Chile; formator, supervisor and responsible for liturgy in the seminaries of the Congregation of the Poor Servants of Divine Providence in Uruguay and Argentina; parish priest of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe in Hualpén and parish priest of Nuestra Señora del Carmen in Cañete, in the archdiocese of Concepción; pastoral assistant of the San José Institute, supervisor for vocational pastoral care, and head of social pastoral care of the deanery of Arauco, in the same archdiocese. Since January 2022 he has served as parish priest of San José in Caranilahue and episcopal vicar for the zone of Arauco.
