Resignation and appointment of bishop of Charleston, U.S.A.

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Charleston, United States of America, presented by Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Jacques E. Fabre, C.S., member of the Congregation of the Missionaries of Saint Charles (Scalabrinians), until now administrator of the San Felipe de Jesus Catholic Mission in Forest Park in the metropolitan archdiocese of Atlanta, as bishop of Charleston, United States of America.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Jacques E. Fabre, C.S., was born on 13 November 1955 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He emigrated to New York City, and attended Saint John’s University in Jamaica, New York, and Saint Michael’s College in Toronto, Canada. After entering the Congregation of the Missionaries of Saint Charles (Scalabrinians), he carried out his ecclesiastical studies at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, Illinois. He subsequently studied at the Pontifical Urban University, obtaining a licentiate in human mobility (2004-2006).

He was ordained a priest on 10 October 1986 in the diocese of Brooklyn, for the Scalabrinians.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of the Our Lady of Guadalupe parish in Immokalee, Florida (1986-1990), chaplain for refugees in Guantanámo, Cuba (1990-1991), parish priest of San Pedro de Macoris parish in the Dominican Republic (1991-2004), and parish vicar of the Saint Joseph parish in Athens, Georgia (2006-2008) and of the Holy Trinity parish in Peachtree City, Florida (2008-2010).

From 2010 to date he has served as administrator of the San Felipe de Jesus Catholic Mission in Forest Park in the metropolitan archdiocese of Atlanta.

 

Appointment of bishop of Mamfe, Cameroon

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Aloysius Fondong Abangalo, of the clergy of Buéa, until now teacher and formator at the Saint Thomas Aquinas Major Seminary of Bambui, as bishop of the diocese of Mamfe, Cameroon.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Aloysius Fondong Abangalo was born on 5 June 1973 in Limbe, in the diocese of Buéa. He studied philosophy and theology at the Saint Thomas Aquinas Interdiocesan Major Seminary in Bambui, Bamenda. He was awarded a licentiate in canon law at the Université Catholique d’Afrique Centrale – UCAC (2011-2014). As a student he also exercised his ministry in the parish of Saint Peter and Paul in Simbock. From 2019 he has been studying for his doctorate in canon law at the Pontifical Urban University, Rome.

He was ordained a priest on 20 April 2006 for the diocese of Buéa. He has held the following offices: vicar of the Holy Family parish in Limbe (2006-2007), rector of Our Lady of Grace College in Muyuka (2007-2009), diocesan bursar and member of the College of Consultors (2009-2011), teacher and formator in the Saint Thomas Aquinas Major Seminary of Bambui and defender of the bond at the Interdiocesan Tribunal of Bamenda (2014-2019).

 

Appointment of coadjutor bishop of Mawlamyine, Myanmar

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Maurice Nyunt Wai, of the clergy of Pathein, until now parish priest of the Sacred Heart Church, Myaungmya, as coadjutor bishop of the diocese of Mawlamyine, Myanmar.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Maurice Nyunt Wai was born on 23 January 1962 in Myaungmya in the diocese of Pathein. After attending the minor seminary and secondary school in Pathein, he continued his studies at the Yangon Major Seminary, while taking distance learning courses in art and science at the University of Yangon (1980-1987). He subsequently specialized at the Alphonsianum Academy in Rome, where he was awarded a doctorate in theology (1997-2002).

He was ordained a priest on 11 March 1989 and incardinated in the diocese of Pathein.

He has held the following offices: assistant in the parish of Myaungmya (1989-1992), professor in the Pyin Oo Lwin Major Seminary (1992-1997), parish priest in Pathein (2002-2003), rector of the Mayanchaung Minor Seminary (2003-2004), vicar general and parish priest of Saint Peter’s Cathedral Church in Pathein (2005-2013), executive secretary of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Myanmar (CBCM) (2013-2019), parish priest of the Sacred Heart Church (since 2019) and dean of the pastoral zone of Myaungmya. In addition, he is secretary of the Episcopal Council for theological issues.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishops of the metropolitan archdiocese of La Paz, Bolivia

The Holy Father has appointed the following as auxiliary bishops of the metropolitan archdiocese of La Paz, Bolivia: the Reverend Mario Luis Durán Berríos, until now parish priest of Santo Domingo, assigning him the titular see of Lambiridi; the Reverend Basilio Mamani Quispe, until now parish priest of Santísimo Sacramento, assigning him the titular see of Naisso; and the Reverend Fr. Pedro Luis Fuentes Valencia, C.P., until now parish priest of El Señor de la Exaltación, assigning him the titular see of Temuniana.

 

Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Mario Luis Durán Berríos

Msgr. Mario Luis Durán Berríos was born on 11 November 1964 in Tupiza, civil department and diocese of Potosí. He attended the Colegio Nacional Mixto of his hometown, and then entered the San Cristóbal Seminary of the metropolitan archdiocese of Sucre. He was ordained a priest for the metropolitan archdiocese of La Paz on 12 December 2000. He attended the preparatory year at San Cristóbal Seminary in Sucre (1990-1991) and then studied philosophy (1991-1993) and theology at San Jerónimo Seminary in La Paz (1994-1998).

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Cristo Rey (2001-2002); parish priest of San Bartolomé in Chulumani (2002-2005); rector of San Jerónimo Major Seminary (2006-2010); parish priest of Nuestra Señora de Pompeya (2011-2020) and, from 2020 to date, parish priest of Santo Domingo in La Paz.

 

Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Basilio Mamani Quispe

Msgr. Basilio Mamani Quispe was born on 14 March 1975 in Wilacota, civil department and metropolitan archdiocese of La Paz. He attended the Colegio Mariscal Antonio José de Sucre and then entered the San Jerónimo Major Seminary in La Paz.

He was ordained a priest for the metropolitan archdiocese of La Paz on 8 May 2008.

He obtained a baccalaureate in theology from the Catholic University of Bolivia San Pablo in La Paz (2008).

He has held the following positions: parish vicar of Flor del Carmelo, (2007-2009); parish vicar of the Inmaculada Concepción in Kupini (2010-2014); parish priest of San Bartolomé in Chulumani (2015-2019) and, from 2020 to date, parish priest of the Santísimo Sacramento parish in Huajchilla, La Paz.

 

Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Pedro Luis Fuentes Valencia

Msgr. Pedro Luis Fuentes Valencia, C.P., was born on 7 June 1968 in La Paz, in the civil department and archdiocese of the same name. Initially he belonged to the Identes Institute of Christ the Redeemer, where he began his studies in theology; he then entered the Congregation of the Passion of Jesus Christ in 1998, for which he was ordained a priest on 19 June 2004.

He obtained a licentiate in dogmatic theology at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid, Spain (2009).

He has exercised his ministry at the parish of Ayo Ayo, prelature of Corocoro (2004-2006); and as deputy parish priest of Santa Gema, Madrid, Spain (2007-2010). From 2010 until the present he has served as parish priest of Señor de la Exaltación and since 2012 vicar forane of the Zona Sur of the metropolitan archdiocese of La Paz.
