Appointment of bishop of Bissau, Guinea-Bissau

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of the diocese of Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, Bishop José Lampra Cá, until now auxiliary bishop and apostolic administrator sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis of the same diocese.

 

Appointment of bishop of Cayenne, French Guyana

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of the diocese of Cayenne, French Guyana, the Reverend Alain Ransay of the clergy of Fort-de-France, Martinique, until now parish priest of Notre Dame de Bellevue.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Alain Ransay was born on 11 November 1961 in Trinité, Martinique. He received priestly ordination on 27 December 1992. In 1984 he graduated in mathematics from the Université Toulouse III – Paul Sabatier. Between 1984 and 1986 he taught mathematics at the Trinity High School and in the Vert-Pré College of Martinique. From 1986 to 1988 he attended the Avignon Seminary and from 1988 to 1992 he was a student at the Séminaire Universitaire of the Université Catholique de Lyon where he was awarded a licentiate in theology.

Since ordination he has held the following offices: parish vicar in Lamentin (1992); parish administrator in Trois-Îlets (1993-1995); preacher for the evangelization missions and spiritual retreats (since 1993); parish priest of De-Briant (1995-1997); parish priest of Saint-Marie (1997-1998); parish priest of Lamentin (1998-2000); chancellor, diocesan bursar, hospital chaplain, moderator of the parish équipe of Le Robert in Martinique (2000-2005); chaplain of teachers of Catholic Action (since 2008); and parish priest of Saint Christophe (2008-2014) and of Marie and Saint-Anne (2014-2016). Since 2014 he has served as professor of moral theology at the IDSR Gaston Jean-Michel; from 2016 to date, parish priest of Notre Dame de Bellevue; since 2017, episcopal delegate for the pastoral care of education; since 2018, vice-president of the European Catholic Institute of the Americas, and since 2020, president of the Presbyteral Council.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, U.S.A.

The Holy Father has appointed as auxiliary bishop of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, United States of America, the Reverend Joseph A. Williams, of the clergy of the same metropolitan archdiocese, assigning him the titular see of Idassa.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Joseph A. Willians was born on 2 May 1974 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States of America.

He carried out his ecclesiastical studies at the Franciscan University of Steubenville and at the University of Saint Thomas and Saint Paul Seminary, obtaining a Master’s degree in theology (1996-2002).

He was ordained a priest for the metropolitan archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis on 28 May 2002.

After ordination he was deputy priest of the Cathedral of Saint Paul (2002-2004), of the parish of Divine Mercy in Faribault (2004-2005), and parish priest of Saint Mathias in Hampton (2005-2008). Since 2008 he has been parish priest of Saint Stephen in Minneapolis. In 2018 he was appointed as episcopal vicar for Hispanic ministry. From 2020 to the present, he has served as parish administrator of the Holy Rosary in Minneapolis.
