Appointment of bishop of Belfort-Montbéliard, France

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Denis Jachiet, titular of Tigisis in Numidia and auxiliary of Paris, as bishop of Belfort-Montbéliard, France.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Denis Jachiet was born on 21 April 1962 in Paris. After obtaining a degree and a doctorate in chemical engineering and working as a scientific researcher at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in the United States, in 1990 he entered the Seminary of Paris and carried out his ecclesiastical studies at the École Cathédrale  of the French capital. He was subsequently sent to the Institut d’Études Théologiques in Brussels, Belgium where he was awarded a licentiate in theology.

He was ordained a priest on 29 June 1996 for the metropolitan archdiocese of Paris.

On 25 June 2016 he was appointed titular bishop of Tigisis in Numidia and auxiliary of Paris. He received episcopal consecration the following 9 September. Within the French Episcopal Conference, he is chair of the Commission for the Universal Mission of the Church.
