Election of coadjutor bishop of the eparchy of Alquoch, Iraq
The Holy Father has granted his assent to the election, by the Synod of Bishops of the Patriarchal Church of Babylon of the Chaldeans, of the Most Reverend Chorbishop Thabet Habib Yousif Al Mekko, until now protosyncellus of the archeparchy of Mosul, as coadjutor bishop of the eparchy of Alquoch, Iraq).
Curriculum vitae
Msgr. Thabet Habib Yousif Al Mekko was born on 14 February 1976 in Karemlesh, Iraq.
He graduated in geological sciences from the University of Mosul and then began his seminary career in Rome where he obtained a bachelor’s degree from the Pontifical Urban University and a licentiate in patrology from the Augustinianum Patristic Institute.
He returned to Iraq and was ordained a priest on 25 July 2008 in Karamlesh.
He carried out pastoral service in Karemlesh until the invasion of the Nineveh Plain in August 2014 and then accompanied the refugee faithful to Erbil. Returning to Karemlesh in September 2017, he has served as parish priest, closely following the reconstruction projects and continuing to teach patrology and theology at Babel College.
Until now he has served as protosyncellus of the archeparchy of Mosul of the Chaldeans.
