Appointment of apostolic nuncio in the Federated States of Micronesia

The Holy Father has appointed as apostolic nuncio in the Federated States of Micronesia Archbishop Novatus Rugambwa, titular of Tagaria, apostolic nuncio in New Zealand, Fiji, Palau, the Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Nauru, Tonga, Samoa, and the Cook Islands, and apostolic delegate in the Pacific Ocean.

 

Resignation of bishop of Ciudad Victoria, Mexico

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Ciudad Victoria, Mexico, presented by Bishop Antonio González Sánchez.

 

Appointment of bishop of Carora, Venezuela

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of Carora, Venezuela, Bishop Carlos Enrique Curiel Herrera, Sch. P., transferring him from the titular see of Carinola and from the office of auxiliary of Cochabamba, Bolivia.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Carlos Enrique Curiel Herrera, Sch. P., was born on 4 July 1960 in Carora, Estado Lara, Venezuela. Before entering the seminary, he studied medicine and surgery at the Universidad de Los Andes in Mérida from 1978 to 1985, and practised medicine for several years. He entered the Order of the Scolopian Fathers (Piarists) and studied Theology at the Instituto de Teología para Religiosos in Caracas.

He gave his religious profession on 2 August 1993 and was ordained a priest on 27 December 1997.

Within the Congregation he has held the following positions: director of the Colegio San José de Calasanz, rector of the Msgr. Salvador Montes de Oca Community of the Piarist Fathers and chaplain of the penitentiary centres for minors in Valencia; master and rector of the House of Formation of the School Fathers in the vice-province of Venezuela and assistant to the vice-provincial; director of the Msgr. Oscar Arnulfo Romero Educational Unit, parish vicar of San Lorenzo Mártir and president of the House of the School Fathers San José de Calasanz in Barquisimeto.

In Bolivia he has held the following offices: parish priest of Apóstol Santiago in Anzaldo, in the metropolitan archdiocese of Cochabamba and rector of the Virgen de las Escuelas Pías Community of the Piarist Fathers; assistant of the vice-province of Brazil-Bolivia and vicar general of the metropolitan archdiocese of Cochabamba.

On 27 December he was appointed as titular bishop of Carinola and auxiliary of Cochabamba, and received episodical consecration on 19 March 2019.

 

Appointment of bishop of El Alto, Bolivia

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Giovani Edgar Arana as bishop of the diocese of El Alto, Bolivia, transferring him from the titular see of Muteci and the office of auxiliary of the same diocese.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Giovani Edgar Arana was born on 23 May 1974 in La Paz, in the metropolitan archdiocese of the same name.

He studied philosophy and theology at the Seminario Mayor San Jerónimo in La Paz.

He was ordained a priest on 8 December 2004. He attended the Saint Peter Favre Centre for Formators for the Priesthood and Consecrated Life at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, where he obtained his diploma in priestly formation on 5 June 2009.

He has held the following offices: cooperating vicar in the Familia de Nazareth parish in La Paz (2005-2006); formator in the Seminario Mayor San Jerónimo (2007-2008); parish administrator of Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria in La Paz (2010-2015); diocesan director of the Schoenstatt Movement (2010-2013); under secretary for pastoral care of the Bolivian Episcopal Conference (2013-2015); vice-rector (2014-2015) and rector of the Seminario Mayor San Jerónimo in La Paz (2016-2018).

He was elected titular bishop of Muteci and auxiliary of El Alto on 27 March 2018 and was consecrated on the following 25 July.

 

Appointment of bishop prelate of Huamachuco, Peru

The Holy Father has appointed bishop prelate of the territorial prelature of Huamachuc, Peru, the Reverend Pascual Benjamín Rivera Montoya, T.O.R., until now apostolic administrator sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis of the same circumscription.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Pascual Benjamín Rivera Montoya, T.O.R., was born on 17 May 1964 in Ayotla, metropolitan archdiocese of Toluca, Mexico. On 26 July 1987 he entered the Third Order Regular of Saint Francis. He made his solemn profession on 17 September 1991 and was ordained a priest on 5 July 1992.

He completed his Baccalaureate studies in philosophy and theology at the Intercontinental University of the Missionaries of Guadalupe (1988-1994). He was awarded a licentiate in canon law from the Universidad Pontificia de México (1996-1999) and a doctorate from the Pontifical Urbanian University in Rome (2000-2003).

He was assigned to the metropolitan archdiocese of México, where he held the following positions: parish vicar of Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza (1994-2001); local superior of his Order and parish priest of Los Santos Reyes (2001-2007); coadjutor vicar of La Divina Providencia parish (2007-2009); parish priest of San Pío X (2009-2017); pro episcopal vicar of Vicariate III of the metropolitan archdiocese of México (2012-2019) and parish vicar of San Pío X (2017-2019).

He has also served as a judge of the ecclesiastical tribunal of the metropolitan archdiocese of Mexico. In the province of his Order he served as vicar, counsellor and treasurer, and in the Order he was counsellor and procurator general.

On 26 July 2019 he was appointed as apostolic administrator sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis of the territorial prelature of Huamachuco.

In addition to Spanish, he speaks Italian, English, French and Latin.

 

Appointment of dean of the Tribunal of the Roman Rota

The Holy Father has appointed as dean of the Tribunal of the Roman Rota the Most Reverend Msgr. Alejandro Arellano Cedillo, until now prelate auditor of the same Tribunal.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Alejandro Arellano Cedillo was born on 8 June 1962 in Olías del Rey, Spain. He was ordained a priest on 25 October 1987 in Toledo for the Priestly Brotherhood of the Workers of the Kingdom of Christ, and obtained a licentiate and doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

He has served as deputy judicial vicar in the metropolitan archdiocese of Madrid and judge in the Rota Tribunal of the apostolic nunciature in Spain. He is a lecturer in canon jaw and jurisprudence. Since 2007 he has been prelate auditor of the Tribunal of the Roman Rota. He is a member of the Special Commission for the treatment of cases of dispensation from unconsummated and unconsummated marriages, and of the Commission for the treatment of cases of dispensation from the obligations of the diaconate and the priesthood.
