Election of exarch of Basra and the Gulf

The Synod of Bishops of the Patriarchal Church of Antioch of the Syrians has elected as exarch of Basra and the Gulf the Reverend Fr. Firas Mundher Drdr, to which the Holy Father has granted his assent, assigning him the titular see of Takrit of the Syrians.

Curriculum vitae

The Reverend Firas Mundher Drdr was born in Qaraqosh, Iraq, on 3 January 1975.

After his primary and secondary school studies he entered the patriarchal seminary in Charfet, Lebanon, where he carried out his institutional studies in philosophy and theology. In 1997 he graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Baghdad.

He was ordained a priest on 30 April 2009 in Qaraqosh, and incardinated in the Patriarchal diocese of Beirut. After ordination and until 2015 he served in the special secretariat of the Patriarch Ignace Youssif III Younan.

From 2015 to 2017 he attended courses in social communication at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome. Since 2018 he has been engaged in the pastoral care of Syriac Catholic migrants and refugees in Jordan.
