Resignation of bishop of Orvieto-Todi, and appointment of successor
The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Orvieto-Todi, Italy, presented by Bishop Benedetto Tuzia.
The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Gualtiero Sigismondi of Foligno, general ecclesiastical assistant of Italian Catholic Action, as bishop of the diocese of Orvieto-Todi.
Bishop Gualtiero Sigismondi
Bishop Gualtiero Sigismondi was born on 25 February 1961 in Ospedalicchio di Bastia Umbra, Perugia. He carried out his studies at the Regional Seminary of Assisi and, as an alumnus of the Pontifical Lombard Seminary, he attended the Gregorian University, where he was awarded a degree in theology.
He was ordained a priest on 29 June 1986 in Perugia, and went on to serve as parish priest, vice rector and spiritual director of the Regional Seminary, director of the ISSR, and regional assistant of Catholic Action. He is a lecturer in dogmatic theology at ITA and, from 2005 to 2008, vicar general of the archdiocese of Perugia.
He was elected as bishop of Foligno on 3 July 2008, and was consecrated on 12 September of the same year. He is currently general ecclesiastical assistant of Italian Catholic Action.
