Appointment of bishop of Shreveport, U.S.A.

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of Shreveport, United States of America, Francis I. Malone, of the clergy of the diocese of Little Rock, currently parish priest of the Christ the King Parish at Little Rock, chancellor for Ecclesiastical Affairs of the diocese and deputy judicial vicar of the diocesan tribunal.

Bishop-elect Francis I. Malone was born on 1 September 1950 in Philadelphia, in the archdiocese of the same name, in Pennsylvania. He attended archdiocesan primary schools in Philadelphia, and then McGehee High School in McGehee in Arkansas (1968). He received his bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Dallas in Texas (1973) and completed his ecclesiastical studies at the same institution (1977) with a Master of Divinity and a master’s degree in education. He was then awarded a licentiate in canon law from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. (1989).

He was ordained a priest on 21 May 1977 for the diocese of Little Rock, Arkansas.

Since ordination to the priesthood, he has held the following positions: parish vicar of the Saint Michael parish in West Memphis and of the Sacred Heart of Jesus parish in Crawfordsville (1977-1980), of Our Lady of the Holy Souls in Little Rick and parish priest of the Holy Cross parish in Sheridan (1980-1981), parish vicar of the Saint Patrick parish in North Little Rock (1981-1983), of the Saint Vincent de Paul parish in Rogers and head of the Saint John parish in Huntsville (1983-1984), parish vicar of the Immaculate Conception parish in North Little Rock (1984-1985), parish priest of the Saint Mary of the Mount parish in Horseshoe Bend and the Saint Michael parish in Cherokee Village (1985-1987), rector of Saint Andrew’s Cathedral in Little Rock (1989-1996) and parish priest of the Immaculate Conception parish and the Saint Anne parish in North Little Rock (1996-2001) and of the Christ the King parish in Little Rock (2001-2019).

He has also taught at the Mount Saint Mary Academy High School in Little Rock (1080-1983), was chaplain of the Rogers Memorial Hospital in Rogers (1983), chancellor and vice officialis (1990-2002), vicar general (2002-2006) and chancellor for Ecclesiastical Affairs of the diocese (2008-2019); member of the Clergy Personnel Board (1983 and 1993-2019), of the presbyteral council (1991-2019), of the college of consultors (1992-2019), director of communications, managing editor of the diocesan newspaper (1995), judge at the provincial court (2002) and deputy judicial vicar of the diocesan court.

In 1998 he was appointed Prelate of Honour, and in 2010, Apostolic Protonotary.

In addition to English, he knows Spanish.

 

Appointment of auxiliary of San Juan de Puerto Rico

The Holy Father has appointed as titular bishop of Felbes and auxiliary of the archdiocese of San Juan de Puerto Rico the Reverend Alberto Figueroa Morales, vicar general of the same archdiocese.

Bishop-elect Alberto Figueroa Morales was born on 9 August 1961 in Guaynabo, archdiocese of San Juan de Puerto Rico. He entered the Order of Capuchin Fathers and carried out his studies in philosophy at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ponce, Puerto Rico, and in theology at the University of Navarre, Spain. He also holds a licentiate in spiritual theology from the Antonianum in Rome.

He was ordained a priest on 2 June 1990 and in 2010 he was incardinated in the archdiocese of San Juan.

As a priest he has held the roles of parish vicar, parish priest in various locations, master of Capuchin novices and vice-provincial of the Order of Capuchin Fathers in Puerto Rico. Since 2016 he has served as vicar general of the archdiocese of San Juan.
