Resignation of archbishop of Crotone-Santa Severina, Italy, and appointment of successor

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the archdiocese of Crotone-Santa Severina, Italy, presented by Archbishop Domenico Graziani.

The Pope has appointed as archbishop of Crotone-Santa Severina, Italy, the Reverend Angelo Raffaele Panzetta, of the clergy of the metropolitan archdiocese of Taranto, currently dean of the Theological Institute of Puglia.

The Reverend Angelo Raffaele Panzetta was born on 26 August 1966 in Pulsano, in the province and archdiocese of Taranto. He attended the minor seminary and, after his high school examinations, he entered the Pontifical Regional Seminary of Molfetta, concluding his studies with a bachelor’s degree in theology.

He received priestly ordination on 14 April 1993. In 1994 he was awarded a licentiate in moral theology, and in 2000, a doctorate at the Alphonsian Academy of Rome. He has served as deputy priest in Pulsano, special secretary to Archbishop Papa, ecclesiastical assistant of Catholic Doctors and of the Secular Institute of the Missionaries of the Kingship of Christ for the metropolitan area of Taranto; he also directed the diocesan and subsequently regional office for family pastoral care. From 2006 to the present he has served as diocesan spiritual assistant of the Gesù ama Community of Catholic Charismatic Renewal. He has offered pastoral collaboration in various parish communities in the archdiocese of Taranto: in Martina Franca, Montemesola, Taranto and Carosino.

In addition, from 2000 to 2002 he was spiritual father in the interdiocesan seminary of Poggio Galeso, and from 2008 to 2011, spiritual father in the Pontifical Regional Seminary of Molfetta. He then become lecturer in moral theology at the Institute of Religious Sciences in Taranto (during the years 1994-1998), and until now also at the Santa Fara Theological Institute of Bari and the Regina Apuliae Theological Institute of Molfetta.

At the same time, at the Theological Faculty of Puglia he has served as regular visiting lecturer and has held the offices of deputy dean (2008-2011) and dean. He has published various texts in specialist journals.
