The Holy Father has appointed as apostolic nuncio in Ethiopia and Djibouti and special representative at the African Union and apostolic delegate in Somalia Archbishop Antoine Camilleri, titular of Skálholt.
Appointment of bishop of Loja, Ecuador
The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of Loja, Ecuador, Bishop Walter Jeová Heras Segarra, O.F.M., currently titular of Vazari and vicar apostolic of Zamora in Ecuador.
Bishop Walter Jeová Heras Segarra, O.F.M., was born in Bulán, archdiocese of Cuenca, on 14 April 1964. After entering the minor seminary of the Franciscan fathers, he studied psychopedagogy and philosophy at the Salesian Polytechnic University, where he obtained the title of secondary school teacher. He then carried out his theological studies at the Pontifical Catholic University of Quito.
He was ordained a priest on 22 September 1990 and incardinated in the Franciscan Order of Friars Minor.
On 25 March 2009 he was appointed as vicar apostolic of Zamora in Ecuador, receiving episcopal ordination the following 21 May.
Since 2 May 2019 he has led the diocese of Loja as apostolic administrator.
