Resignation of bishop of Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada and appointment of successor

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, presented by Bishop Robert Harris.

The Pope has appointed Bishop Christian Riesbeck, C.C., of the title of Tipasa in Numidia and auxiliary of the archdiocese of Ottawa, as bishop of the diocese of Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada.

Bishop Christian Riesbeck, C.C., was born in Montréal on 7 February 1970. He completed his primary studies in Aylmer, Gatineau, and in Nepean, Ottawa. He then attended the Saint Piux X secondary school in Ottawa, and the University of Ottawa, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in political sciences. He subsequently studied in the Saint Augustine Seminary of Toronto and was awarded a licentiate in canon law by the Saint Paul University of Ottawa. He speaks French, English and Spanish.

He was ordained a priest on 12 October 1996 for the archdiocese of Ottawa. In 2003 he was incardinated in the Society of Apostolic Life Companions of the Cross.

After three years of experience as parish vicar, he became parish priest for seven years at the Queen of Peace parish, Houston, Texas, United States of America. In 2010 he was appointed as chancellor of the archdiocese of Ottawa. He has also held the office of judge of the regional Tribunal.

On 7 January 2014 he was appointed as auxiliary bishop of Ottawa and received episcopal consecration on 19 March 2014.

 

Resignation of bishop of Sorsogon, Philippines, and appointment of successor

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Sorsogon, Philippines, presented by Bishop Arturo M. Bastes, S.V.D.

The Pope has appointed as bishop of Sorsogon, Philippines, the Reverend Jose Alan V. Dialogo, of the clergy of the archdiocese of Manila, currently director of the Cardinal Sin Welcome Home.

Bishop-elect Jose Alan V. Dialogo was born in Lagonoy, Camarines Norte, in the diocese of Daet, on 10 July 1962. After his high school studies he obtained a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the university of New Caceres and subsequently attended courses in philosophy and theology at the Holy Apostles Senior Seminary. In 1999 he was awarded a licentiate in spirituality by the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

He was ordained a priest for the archdiocese of Manila on 31 July 1996.

He then held the following offices: parish vicar at the parish of San Roque in Mandaluyong (1996-1997); vice-rector and dean of seminarians at the Seminary of the Holy Apostles for adult vocations in Guadalupe, Makati City (1999-2002); rector of the same seminary (2003-2008); parish priest of the parish of Saint John of the Cross in Pembo, Makati City (2008-2015).

Since 2015 he has been director of the Cardinal Sin Welcome Home in Manila.

 

Appointment of archbishop of Nueva Pamplona, Colombia

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Jorge Alberto Ossa Soto of Santa Rosa de Osos as archbishop of Nueva Pamplona, Colombia.

Archbishop-elect Jorge Alberto Ossa Soto was born in El Carmen de Viboral, in the diocese of Sonsón-Rionegro, on 29 July 1956. He carried out his priestly studies in the Saint Pius X major seminary, in the diocese of Istmina-Tadó. He obtained a licentiate in dogmatic theology from the Catholic University of Innsbruck.

He was ordained as a priest on 23 May 1982, for the clergy of the diocese of Istmina-Tadó.

As a priest he has held the following pastoral offices: parish vicar, parish priest of the Cathedral, diocesan bursar, head of social projects for the diocese, parish priest of the El Sagrado Corazón de Jesús parish in Andagoya, parish priest of the San Francisca Solano parish, rector of the Saint Pius X major seminary, and vicar general.

On 21 January he was appointed as bishop of Florencia and received episcopal consecration the following 1 March.

On 15 July 2011 he was appointed as bishop of Santa Rosa de Osos.

 

Appointment of director of the Directorate for Security Services and Civil Protection of Vatican City State and commander of the Gendarme Corps

The Holy Father has appointed Dr. Gianluca Gauzzi Broccoletti, currently deputy director and deputy commander, as director of the Directorate for Security Services and Civil Protection of the Vatican City State and commander of the Gendarmerie Corps.

Gianluca Gauzzi Broccoletti was born in Gubbio, Perugia on 3 June 1974, and graduated in safety engineering and protection from the “La Sapienza” University in Rome. Married with two children, he joined the Gendarme Corps in 1995. Since 1999 he has been responsible for the design and development of the infrastructure of networking technology and security of the Vatican City State and cyber security.

In 2010 he was transferred to the Operational Security Centre, gradually advancing in responsibilities and corresponding levels until he reached the rank of manager in 2017, and deputy director and deputy commander in 2018. Over the years, he has established a relationship of trust with the various special Secretariats of the Holy Father, the Supreme Authorities of the Governorate and the Secretariat of State, where competence and professionalism were required for confidential investigations.

He has accompanied the Supreme Pontiff on numerous apostolic journeys and pastoral visits in Italy and throughout the world. He also coordinated the summer stays of Saint John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI, and served as deputy commander of the Detachment of Castel Gandolfo during the summer stay of Pope Benedict XVI in the Pontifical Villas. He was part of the staff responsible for managing technological security during the 2005 and 2013 Conclave.

He has served as delegate of the director of the Security and Civil Protection Services in various circumstances for meetings with the City of Rome and the various police forces relating to so-called “major events” when the presence of the Holy Father is expected. He has attended numerous courses, seminars and internships with the various Italian and international police forces.
