Appointment of bishop of Guanhães, Brazil
The Holy Father appointed as bishop of Guanhães, Brazil, H.E. Msgr. Otacílio Ferreira de Lacerda, transferring him from the titular see of Tulana and from the office of auxiliary bishop of Belo Horizonte.
The bishop-elect was born in 1960 in Itapiruçu, diocese of Leopoldina, state of Minas Gerais, and was ordained a priest in 1988. He studied social sciences at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo.
Since ordination he has served in a number of pastoral and administrative roles, including parish vicar, parish priest, superintendent of diocesan Caritas, parish administrator, pastoral coordinator, supervisor for youth pastoral care, regional vicar, episcopal vicar for the clergy, vicar forane and diocesan deputy bursar. He was appointed as titular bishop of Tulana and auxiliary of the archbishop of Belo Horizonte in December 2016, and received episcopal ordination in March 2017.
