Resignation of bishop of Ji-Paraná, Brazil

The Holy Father Francis has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Resignation of bishop of Ji-Paraná, Brazil, presented by Bishop Bruno Pedron, S.D.B.

 

Resignation of bishop of Namur, Belgium, and appointment of successor

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Namur, Belgium, presented by Bishop Rémy Vancottem.

The Pope has appointed Bishop Pierre Warin, auxiliary of Namur, as bishop of the same diocese.

Bishop Warin was born in 1948 in Rocourt, in the diocese of Liège, Belgium. He holds a bachelor’s degree in scholastic philosophy from the Catholic University of Leuven and the level of “candidate” in philosophy and letters. He continued his studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University and the Pontifical Biblical Institute, obtaining a doctorate in theology and a licentiate in biblical theology.

He was ordained a priest in 1972 for the diocese of Liège.

Since ordination he has held a number of roles, including professor of philosophy, president of the Seminary of Liège, diocesan head of the permanent diaconate and of the formation of ordained ministers, and episcopal vicar.

He was appointed as titular bishop of Tongeren and auxiliary bishop of Namur in 2004. Since 2004 he has served as vicar general of Namur.

 

Resignation of bishop of Pinar del Río, Cuba, and appointment of successor

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Pinar del Río, Cuba, presented by Bishop Jorge Enrique Serpa Pérez.

The Pope has appointed as bishop of the diocese of Pinar del Río, Cuba, Bishop Juan de Dios Hernandez-Ruiz, S.J., currently titular bishop of Passo Corese and auxiliary of San Cristóbal de La Habana, Cuba.

The bishop-elect was born in Holguín, Cuba in 1948 and was ordained a priest in 1976. He holds a licentiate in spiritual theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1974 and gave his solemn vows in 1985.

Since ordination he has served in a number of roles, including Master of Novices, professor and spiritual director of the interdiocesan seminary, and director of the “Pedro Arrupe” centre of spirituality. He was appointed as titular bishop of Passo Corese and auxiliary of San Cristóbal de La Habana, Cuba, in 2005, and received episcopal ordination the following January 2006. Since 2006 he has served as secretary of the Cuban Episcopal Conference.
