Resignation of bishop of Imola, Italy, and appointment of successor

The Holy Father Francis has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Imola, Italy, presented by H.E. Msgr. Tommaso Ghirelli.

The Pope has appointed as bishop of the diocese of Imola, Italy, the Rev. Giovanni Mosciatti, of the clergy of the diocese of Fabriano-Matelica, currently parish priest of the parish of San Facondino, in Sassoferrato.

The bishop-elect was born in Matelica in 1958 and was ordained a priest in 1986. He has served in a number of pastoral roles, including parish vicar and parish priest of the associated parishes of Melano, Cupo and Bastia, director of the Youth and Vocational Pastoral office, rector of the Episcopal Seminary of Fabriano-Matelica, member of the presbyteral council and the diocesan Commission for the Permanent Diaconate. He is spiritual assistant to the Fraternity of Communion and Liberation in the regions of the Marches and Umbria.

 

Appointment of bishop of Gwalior, India

The Holy Father has appointed the Rev. Joseph Thykkattil, parish priest of the Saint Peter parish in Bharatpur, as bishop of the diocese of Gwalior.

The bishop-elect was born in 1952 in Enamakkal, Kerala, India, and was ordained a priest in 1988. During his pastoral ministry he has served as parish priest of the Cathedral of Agra, rector of the Saint Lawrence, and vicar general of the archdiocese of Agra.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Nagasaki, Japan

The Holy Father has appointed as auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Nagasaki, Japan, the Rev. Peter Michiaki Nakamura, currently parish priest of Miura-machi, assigning him the titular see of Fessei.

The bishop-elect was born in 1962 in Saikai, Nagasaki, Japan, and was ordained a priest in 1988. He has served in a number of pastoral roles, including formator in the minor seminary of Nagasaki, parish vicar and parish priest of various parishes, and professor of moral theology in the major seminaries of Fukuoka and Tokyo.
