Resignation of the metropolitan archbishop of Tarragona, Spain, and appointment of new metropolitan archbishop

The Holy Father Francis accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of Tarragona, Spain, presented by H.E. Msgr. Jaume Pujol Balcells.

The Pope has appointed as metropolitan archbishop of Tarragona the Rev. Joan Planellas i Barnosell, currently dean of the Faculty of Theology of Catalonia.

The archbishop-elect was born in 1955 in Girona, Spain, and was ordained a priest in 1982. He holds a doctorate in theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University. He has served in a number of pastoral roles, including parish vicar, professor of theology in the Seminary of Girona, director of the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences (1988-1998), parish priest and administrator of various parishes (1990-2019), rector of the Seminary of Girona, (1996-2002), director of the Catalan Journal of Theology, and vice dean of the Faculty of Theology of Catalonia (2010-2015). He is currently dean of the Faculty of Theology of Catalonia.

 

Resignation of the metropolitan archbishop of Salerno-Campagna-Acerno, Italy, and appointment of new metropolitan archbishop

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of Salerno-Campagna-Acerno, Italy, presented by H.E. Msgr. Luigi Moretti.

The Pope has appointed as metropolitan archbishop of Salerno-Campagna-Acerno, Italy, the Rev. Msgr. Andrea Bellandi, currently vicar general of Florence, Italy.

The bishop-elect was born in 1960 in Florence, Italy, and was ordained a priest in 1985. He holds a licentiate in theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University. He has served in a number of pastoral roles, including president and dean of the Faculty of Theology of Central Italy, parish priest, archiepiscopal delegate for the formation of the clergy, vicar general of Florence and rector of the Church of San Giovannino dei Cavalieri. For several years he was regional director and member of the National Council of the Communion and Liberation Movement.

 

Resignation of the metropolitan archbishop of Oristano, Italy, and appointment of new metropolitan archbishop

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of Oristano, Italy, presented by H.E. Msgr. Ignazio Sanna, O.F.M. Conv.

The Pope has appointed as metropolitan archbishop of Oristano, Italy, H.E. Msgr. Roberto Carboni, O.F.M. Conv., currently bishop of Ales-Terralba.

The bishop-elect was born in 1958 in Scano Montiferro, Italy, gave his perpetual vows in 1982 and was ordained a priest in 1984. He holds a licentiate in psychology from the Pontifical Gregorian University. He has served in a number of pastoral roles, including spiritual director in the National Centre for Vocation Guidance in the Sacred Convent of Assisi (Franciscan postulate), professor of psychology at the Theological Institute of Assisi, parish priest, provincial vicar and professor of psychology at the Pontifical Faculty of Theology of Sardinia. As a missionary in Cuba he was spiritual director of the Interdiocesan Seminary, professor of psychology and rector of postulants, rector of the Church of Saint Francis of Havana, and secretary general for formation in the Order of Friars Minor Conventual. He was appointed as bishop of Ales-Terralba in 2016.

 

Appointments to the Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for the Pan-Amazon Region

The Holy Father Francis, in view of the upcoming Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for the Pan-Amazon Region, to be held in the Vatican from 6 to 27 October 2019 on the theme Amazonia: new paths for the Church and for an integral ecology, has appointed:
