This morning, Thursday 25 April 2019, the Holy Father Francis received in audience H.E. Mr. Raimonds Vējonis, president of the Republic of Latvia, who subsequently met with the Rev. Msgr. Antoine Camilleri, under-secretary for Relations with States.

During the cordial discussions, appreciation was expressed for the good bilateral relations, recalling the Holy Father’s recent trip on the occasion of the centenary of independence in 2018. The parties then focused on several themes regarding the social and religious situation of the country.

Attention then turned to various themes of an international nature, such as peace and security in the region, the prospects for the future of the European project and care for the environment.
