Resignation of bishop of Masaka, Uganda, and appointment of successor
The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Masaka, Uganda, presented by H.E. Msgr. John Baptist Kaggwa. He is succeeded by Rev. Msgr. Serverus Jjumba, of the clergy of the same see, currently vicar general.
Bishop-elect Serverus Jjumba was born in 1962 in Katinnyondo-Kyannamukaala, in the diocese of Masaka. Following his secondary school studies at the minor seminary of Bukalasa, he studied philosophy in the Saint Thomas Aquinas Major Seminary of Katigondo in Masaka, and theology at Saint Mary’s National Major Seminary in Ggaba, Kampala. He was ordained a priest on 20 June 1992, for the diocese of Masaka.
After ordination he obtained a postgraduate master’s degree in education from the University of Makerere, Kampala, and a diploma in religious studies from the same university. He has served as parish vicar of the Mpambire parish, formator and bursar in the minor seminary of Bukalasa, and diocesan bursar. He is currently vicar general and moderator of the Curia.
Appointment of auxiliary bishop of El Alto, Bolivia
The Holy Father has appointed as auxiliary of the diocese of El Alto, Bolivia, the Rev. Pascual Limachi Ortiz, of the clergy of the diocese of El Alto and vicar general of the same diocese, assigning him the titular see of Belesasa.
The bishop-elect was born in 1963 in La Paz, in the archdiocese of the same name, and following his studies in philosophy and theology at the San Jerónimo Major Seminary of La Paz, was ordained a priest on 29 June 1992. He was subsequently incardinated in the new diocese of El Alto, created with territory taken from the archdiocese of La Paz.
Since ordination he has served in a number of pastoral roles, including parish priest of the parish of Huarina, parish vicar and later parish priest of Achacachi, parish priest of the parish of “Saint Pius “, and parish priest of Ancoraimes. Since 2009 he has been parish priest of “La Santísima Trinidad” and, since 2015, vicar general.
Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Rottenburg-Stuttgart, Germany
The Holy Father has appointed as auxiliary of the diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart, Germany, the Rev. Gerhard Schneider, of the clergy of the same diocese, currently rector of the Ambrosianum preparatory seminary in Tübingen and head of personnel of the diocese, assigning him the titular see of Abbir Germaniciana.
Bishop-elect Gerhard Schneider was born in 1969 in Ulm, in the diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart, and following his high school studies worked for the Deutsche Bundesbank for seven years. He holds a doctorate in pastoral theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University and was ordained a priest in 2002 for the diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart.
He has served as deputy priest and collaborated in the formation of future priests in the Wilhelmsstift Theological College in Tübingen. Since 2009 he has served as director of the Ambrosianum preparatory seminary in Tübingen and, since 2010, as head of personnel of the diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart.
