Resignation of auxiliary bishop of Lima, Peru

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the office of auxiliary of the archdiocese of Lima, Peru, presented by H.E. Msgr. Adriano Tomasi, O.F.M., titular bishop of Obbi.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishops of Lima, Peru

The Pope has appointed as auxiliary bishops of the archdiocese of Lima, Peru, the Rev. Ricardo Augusto Rodríguez Álvarez, currently parish priest of Santa María de Nazaret, assigning him the titular see of Elie, and Guillermo Teodoro Elías Millares, currently parish priest of El Señor de la Paz, assigning him the titular see of Torri di Numidia.

The Rev. Ricardo Augusto Rodríguez Álvarez was born in 1962 in Lima and was ordained a priest in 1987. After his studies in philosophy and theology, he specialized in youth pastoral ministry in Santiago, Chile, and Bogotá, Colombia. During his pastoral ministry he has served as parish vicar and parish priest in various parishes in his archdiocese.

The Rev. Guillermo Teodoro Elías Millares was born in 1953 in Lima, Peru, and was ordained a priest in 1981. After his studies in philosophy and theology, he specialized in theology of marriage and the family at the Pontifical Saint John Paul Institute in Valencia, Spain. He has served in a number of pastoral roles, including parish vicar and parish priest in the archdiocese of Lima, and in the Peruvian diocese of Carabayllo, as well as in Alicante, Spain.

 

Appointment of coadjutor archbishop of the diocese of Halifax-Yarmouth, Canada

The Holy Father has appointed H.E. Msgr. Brian Dunn as coadjutor archbishop of the archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth, Canada, transferring him from the diocese of Antigonish.

The archbishop-elect was born in 1955 in Saint John’s, Newfoundland, Ontario, Canada, and was ordained a priest in 1980. He holds a doctorate in canon law from Saint Paul’s University of Ottawa and a master’s degree in liturgy from Notre Dame University, Indiana, United States of America. He has served as parish vicar and parish priest in four parishes over a period of fourteen years, as well as professor at Saint Paul’s University and in Saint Peter’s Seminary, London, United Kingdom. He was consecrated a bishop in 2008, serving as auxiliary in Sault Sainte Marie until his transferral to Antigonish in 2019.

The Holy Father has appointed His Eminence Cardinal Angelo Amato, S.D.B., prefect emeritus of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, as his special envoy at the celebration of the 880th anniversary of the death of Saint John of Matera, to be held in the Cathedral of Matera, Italy, on 20 June 2019.
