Communiqué: Entry into force of the Framework Agreement between the Holy See and the Central African Republic on matters of mutual interest, 05.03.2019

On 5 March 2019, His Eminence Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin and His Excellency Mr. Faustin Archange Touadéra, president of the Central African Republic, met in the Vatican Apostolic Palace.

On this occasion, His Eminence the secretary of State consigned the Instrument of Ratification of the Framework Agreement between the Holy See and the Central African Republic on matters of mutual interest, which was signed on 6 September 2016 in Bangui.

The aforementioned Act completed the procedure of the exchange of the Instruments of Ratification of the same Framework Agreement, since the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and of Central Africans Abroad of the Central African Republic had previously sent the Instrument of Ratification on the part of the State to the apostolic nunciature in Bangui.

The Framework Agreement, which entered into force on 5 of this month in accordance with its article 2.1 § 1, establishes the legal framework for the relations between the Church and the State, who, safeguarding the independence and autonomy proper to each one, undertake to collaborate for the spiritual, moral, social, cultural and material wellbeing of the human person, and in favour of the promotion of the common good.
