Resignation of bishop of Long Xuyên, Viêt Nam, and appointment of successor

The Holy Father Francis has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Long Xuyên, Viêt Nam, presented by H.E. Msgr. Joseph Trân Xuân Tiéu.

He is succeeded by H.E. Msgr. Joseph Trân Văn Toàn, currently coadjutor bishop of the same ecclesiastical circumscription.

The Holy Father has appointed His Eminence Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, as his special envoy at the celebrations of the eighth centenary of the encounter between Saint Francis of Assisi and the Sultan Al-Malik Al-Kamel, which will take place in Egypt from 1 to 3 March 2019.
