Appointment of vicar apostolic of Camiri, Bolivia

The Holy Father Francis has appointed as vicar apostolic of Camiri, Bolivia, the Rev. Fr. Jesús Galeote Tormo, O.F.M., currently apostolic administrator “sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis” of the same vicariate.

Rev. Fr. Jesús Galeote Tormo, O.F.M.

The Rev. Fr. Jesús Galeote Tormo, O.F.M., was born in Madrid, Spain on 21 September 1951. He gave his religious vows in the Franciscan Order on 30 March 1975. He studied philosophy in Toledo, Spain, and theology at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas of Aquinas (Angelicum). He then obtained a licentiate in moral theology at the Alphonsian Academy (1974-1976). He obtained a degree in medicine and surgery from the University of Salamanca, Spain (1978-1984), with further specialization studies (1990-1991). He attended several courses for the doctorate in missiology at the Pontifical Gregorian University (1993-1994 and 2013-2014). He was ordained a priest on 5 September 1976.

Since ordination he has held the following offices: head of youth pastoral ministry, teacher of religion and parish vicar, Ávila, Spain (1976-1986); director of the San Antonio de Lomerío Hospital, Department of Santa Cruz (1986-1993); parish priest of San Javier and head of the Center Kolping San Javier for indigenous pastoral ministry, archbishop of Santa Cruz de la Sierra (1993-2006); pastoral service in the diocese of Chiang Mai, Thailand, in the parish of Mae Chaem (2006-2008); pastoral service in the parish of Chian Saen, provinch of Chiang Rai, working with ethnic and migrant groups, Thailand (2008-2010); pastor of the Our Lady of the Rosary parish in Prachuap Khirikhan, and member of the Franciscan Formation Group, Thailand (2010-2015); guardian and pastor of the convent-parish San Francisco de Asís, and director of the Ecclesial Documentation Centre in Tarija, diocese of Tarija, Bolivia (2015-2017); and apostolic administrator of the apostolic vicariate of Camiri (since 2017).

 

Appointment of member of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue

The Pope has appointed His Eminent Beatitude Cardinal Louis Raphaël I Sako, Patriarch of Babylonia of the Chaldeans, as member of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue.
