Resignation of bishop of Kagoshima, Japan, and appointment of successor

The Holy Father Francis has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Kagoshima, Japan, presented by H.E. Msgr. Paul Kenjiro Koriyama.

The Pope has appointed as bishop of Kagoshima, Japan, the Rev. Fr. Francis Xavier Hiroaki Nakano, currently rector of the Catholic Seminary of Japan.

Rev. Francis Xavier Hiroaki Nakano

The Rev. Francis Xavier Hiroaki Nakano was born on 15 April 1951 in Kagoshima. He studied philosophy and theology at the San Sulpizio Major Seminary in Fukuoka. He obtained a licentiate in Dogmatic Theology from the Pontifical Urban University, Rome. He was ordained a priest on 2 April 1978 for the diocese of Kagoshima.

Since priestly ordination he has held the following positions: secretary to the bishop and editor of the diocesan newspaper (1978-1981); parish vicar of Kamaoike (1981-1984); specialization studies in Rome (1984-1988); parish priest of Tamazato (1988-1993); parish priest of Naze (1993-2005); chancellor of the diocese of Kagoshima (2005-2009); parish priest of Saint Francis Xavier (2009-2011); formator in the Catholic Seminary of Japan (2011-2013); pastor of the parish of Shibushi (for a few months in 2011); vice-rector of the Japan Catholic Seminary (2013-2017); and rector of the Japan Catholic Seminary (since 2017).

 

Appointment of bishop of Tapachula, Mexico

The Pope has appointed as bishop of Tapachula, Mexico, H.E. Msgr. Jaime Calderón Calderón, currently titular bishop of Giomnio and auxiliary of Zamora.

H.E. Msgr. Jaime Calderón Calderón

H.E. Msgr. Jaime Calderón Calderón was born in Churintzio, diocese of Zamora, on 1 May 1966. Following his formation in the seminary of Zamora, he was ordained a priest on 16 February 1991 and incardinated in the diocese of Zamora. After ordination he obtained a licentiate in philosophy from the Pontifical University of Mexico, and then a Ph.D. in philosophy from the Gregorian University in Rome.

He has served as parish vicar, prefect, vice-rector and rector of the major seminary of Zamora, coordinator of the presbyteral council, secretary of the college of consultors, judge in the ecclesiastical Tribunal and president of the Organization of Mexican Seminaries.

On 5 July 2012 he was appointed as titular bishop of Giomnio and auxiliary of Zamora. He received episcopal consecration on 5 October 2012.
